Can Billy persuade Todd to keep Summer?

Billy does his best next week to do all he can to help his dying friend, Drew.

In next week's Coronation Street, the previews reveal that Drew takes a turn for the worse and Billy's really upset when he hears this.  He worries about his god-daughter, Summer, and what her future might be like without her dad. She could even end up in care.

Todd does his best to appear sympathetic when Billy reveals the news that Drew is getting worse. But can Billy persaude him to take on Summer as their own child?

This is an odd situation. Billy apparently hasn't been a part of this child's life for years. They didn't live in the same town but Drew has no one else who would be closer to Summer than an ex to leave her with? I hope Billy doesn't get attached only to have someone with a legitimate claim turn up and fight for custody.

It isn't just down to Billy, anyway. I'm sure the courts would appoint a social worker to oversee the child's welfare - a guardian ad-litem - to represent the Summer's best interest. Also, Summer's 12 and she may not want to live with Billy and Todd. One possibility is that Todd reluctantly agrees but Summer or the social worker choose another family.

Always room at Eileens tardis!

I reckon she will bond with Todd almost instantly. Which could mean, of course, that she's a bag-full-o-trouble!!

I also think it's strange that Drew had no one else to ask. Also very strange that Billy has no real relationship with Summer, given his role as her godfather and the importance of religion to him and his feeling that he's meant to be a religious leader.

Said it before, will say it again, Todd and Billy just aren't that strong or well suited and I actually hope they do split up. Billy will make a great dad, and will hopefully stick around. Summer is only a year younger than Amy who needs a friend. Todd needs a job and to settle himself. That he tries to 'appear sympathetic' says worlds about him; he's a total opposite to Billy on the fundamental personality traits that matter to successful relationships.

That said, it is oddly convenient that Drew has no family or friends at all who would take her in.

abbyk, I completely agree that these two are opposites.
People say opposites attract but to endure a couple can only be different in superficial ways; Billy and Todd don't have the same morals, that's a huge obstacle to a life together.

I have always thought Billy was lovely and think he could be a kind, loving father. Todd, I'm not so sure - he has a lot of growing up to do. If they do agree to raise the child together - the first thing they need to do is get their own place! I don't understand why on earth they are still living at Eileens!
Maybe Sean and Billy will get back together.

Rapunzel...I agree. Todd is actually good with kids so this could be a nice storyline.

Whoa!!! Billy and Todd have hardly been together five minutes and they're thinking of a major decision like this? Where will they live?(not at the rectory or Eileens)..maybe they should start with a puppy and see how they get on? A child whose parent has just died is going to need a lot of help and support. Does Todd really want to share Billy at this point in their relationship? They've not even had a holiday away together.
Asking to much Brother Billy....you can't save the world
