Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 12th January

A collage of Carla Connor, Becky Swain and Lisa Swain over a Coronation Street background.

I really was hoping that once Swain's brain had kicked in and she had worked out that her ex-dead ex-wife was lying to her that Becky would say: it's a fair cop, guv, and go off quickly to gaol and we'd never see her again. But the actor still has another ep left on her contract so, after Betsy hears her mum discussing her other mum with Carla, she goes off to see her at the prison with the most liberal visiting hours in the country. She blames Becky for Mason's death (a bit of a stretch tbh) and tells her she hates her (fair). It seems to work, as Becky doesn't bring up Lisa's name at her hearing and is sent down for 12 years. I can see her being top dog in a couple of months.

Coronation Street confirms major connection between mysterious Jodie and Shona in early ITVX release | Soaps | Metro News

At Kate Oates Memorial, Shona discusses the reappearance of Jodie. To be honest, I thought she was one of the Emmerdale lot, but no, she's a long lost Ramsey. I'm more interested in Mr Harper, although I did wonder if he was a crossover from Casualty, or something. She gets a lot of messages from an unknown person shortly before a panic attack, which leads David to bring her back to number 8. Is this going to go well?

Ryan speaks to Debbie in Corrie

Meanwhile Team KARJ* continues its anti-Carl offensive, with Ry pointing out that Carl has been creaming off the hotel profits, but Debbie's not interested. Is her personality transplant to do with her dementia or.....the internet rumours I've read? I feel that old Debbie was a bit more short shrifty with Carl.

*Kev, Abi, Ryan and James.

Whiny Will is back, moaning about Daniel giving him detention; meanwhile Megan gets an invite to Bertie's birthday. Surely he's a bit young, even for her. I have to say that her cover of going out with Daniel seems more real than her actual relationship with her teenage paramour. She gets a mysterious and somewhat threatening phone call, presumably one of her previous discarded conquests.

Oh and Izzie's had a haircut. Suits her.

Rachel Stevenson - on bluesky

I don't get how Betsy can connect Mason's death to Becky.
Anyone?

I hope that's the end of Becky. We need to get rid of Carl and Theo... then another baddie will be brought in.
Megan seems pretty content with Daniel and they seem suited as a couple. Why doesn't she ditch Will?
I'm not keen on these 30 minute episodes. It's 20 mins if watched on ITV X. It just races by, and there's hardly any scenes.
I reckon in around a year's time, Emmerdale and Corrie will revert back to an hour each.

Amazingly speedy sentencing. Totally unrealistic. Scriptwriters taking the audience for mugs as usual.

A couple of episodes ago, Becky was handcuffed and carted off somewhere. In last night's episode, the hearing's been held, Becky pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 years in prison. However, I still don't know what crime Becky committed when she was working with Costello. I think the writers should at least have had a duty solicitor telling Becky what she was going to be charged with.
Sorry to say it but the Maggie character hasn't worked and they need to redeem her quickly or let her leave. Hope the upcoming story about Leanne buying Maggie's share of the pub leads to her exit.

It's a bit of a blur, but didn't Mason have 2 older brothers who claimed to know something about Becky's "murder"? Another woman (I forget her name) was buried in her place.Costello was involved in the cover-up. Mason somehow got stabbed.
Of course a trial and sentencing is always months after the crime. I am baffled. What was Becky charged with? Faking her own death? Arranging the attack on Costello? Kidnapping and imprisoning Carla? Leaving her to die in the container? Being a corrupt cop all along? 12 years is nowhere near enough. And what about Costello? Shouldn't he face charges too? The criminal gang bought him the Lake District house. Investigating Lisa seems harsh after all she she's been through.

I agree with you about Maggie, humpty Dumpty. I liked her at first but now she's a pain and has no redeeming features.
I too, was confused about the charges against Becky and yes it happened so quickly from arrest to to court. Why wasn't there a trial? I'm glad to see the back of her.
Quite frankly, I couldn't see the point of the 'bringing her back from the dead' plot. The details were sketchy. It was bizarre and totally unconvincing.

I have to agree with you about Will. Not sure what Megan's end game is with this.

I don't either soap will revert back to hour episodes, unfortunately, as they were both reduced to 30 minutes as a cost cutting exercise. The viewing public's opinion doesn't really matter

Likewise the Tracey Barlow character - it seems she's just there to be horrible and downright nasty to anybody. Get rid. She's had her time.
