Preview of tonight's Coronation Street - Weds 14 April

Wednesday 14th April 2021
FIZ HAS A SURPRISING PROPOSITION FOR TYRONE At No.9 a tearful Hope asks Fiz why Daddy has left them. Abi puts pressure on Kevin to talk to Tyrone as it’s time he moved out. Tyrone approaches Alina and asks her if she still has any feelings for him. Alina suggests he calls at her flat later. Tyrone calls at No.9 and tells Fiz that the last thing he wants to do is cause the girls any upset. Fiz suggests he moves back in.
THE BELL ‘TROLLS’ FOR Cathy Brian reports Cathy’s online abuse to Craig. Craig’s apologetic but explains there’s nothing the police can do. Gemma’s horrified when she comes across a deepfake video of Cathy online. Having shown it to Bernie, Gemma heads to the loo leaving Bernie with her laptop.
AGGIE FEARS ED IS SPIRALLING Ed tells Michael that he spent the night at the builder’s yard catching up on paperwork. When Seb lets slip that he spent the night playing cards with Ed and Paul, Michael’s perturbed to realise Ed lied to him and he’s clearly gambling again.
Michael confronts Ed over his gambling. Ed admits he simply didn’t want to come home as he finds it too painful to be in the same house as him at the moment.
ELSEWHERE When Peter reveals their plans for a small hotel wedding without any family, Tracy’s hurt. When Natasha asks Gail if she’d mind having Sam for a couple of hours, Gail’s thrilled.
Wednesday 14th April 2021
HOME IS NOT WHERE TYRONE’S HEART IS Fiz assures Tyrone she’s not looking for a romantic reunion, but to give the girls some stability. Tyrone tells Alina that he’s moving back in with Fiz on a temporary basis for the sake of the kids, but it’s her that he loves. Tyrone moves back into No.9 but Tyrone can’t help wondering if he’s made a terrible mistake.
CATHY MAKES A SACRIFICE FOR BRIAN AND ALEX When Cathy asserts that it would be best if she moved away, Brian begs her not to leave. Brian confides in Yasmeen that Cathy’s gone.
ED COMES TO HIS SENSES Having found out from Aggie that Ed’s taken £1k out of their bank account, Michael and James head out to search the bookies and casinos for their Dad. ELSEWHERE Over a glass of wine, Gail assures Natasha that she’s family now, no matter what happens between her and Nick. Carla bites the bullet and tells Tracy that she’s not invited to their wedding.

Coronation Street Episode Review Tuesday 13 April 2021

Well Friday was Monday and so Monday is Tuesday and as I was not here on Friday I thought I would pop in for Tuesday.  I almost wish I had not bothered.  Nearly the entire hour consisted of Peter and the Barlow family.  Carla is behaving oddly because Adam decides he has to tell her that Nick, Leanne and Simon are not on holiday - but they are in hiding which is why they have all turned their phones off.  Why Adam is telling the world that they are in hiding when maintaining the fiction of a holiday would be far better at this stage I don't understand.  He wants Peter to be told about his son - and yet he knows today is critical to Peter's well being.  Adam tells Carla to tell Peter or he will do it himself.  For reasons that are unclear Daniel decides that Carla is behaving strangely (well she is keeping a secret) and he decides to tell Tracy that Carla must be having an affair with Lucas after all.  The evidence for this is all so flimsy as to be unbelievable.  Eventually the liver transplant team of one person meet Peter, Carla and Daniel at the hospital with Steve, Tracy and Adam online.  Tracy snipes at Carla and cannot control herself.  For goodness sake the Barlow / McDonald clan are supposed to be demonstrating how they will be supportive of Peter as he recovers his health - because if they don't he won't go on the transplant list.  I simply do not understand any organisation wanting family input and Peter should have known it would not work.  Eventually they get Peter to calm down (above) and stay for the medical tests.  By the end of the episode we do not know if Peter is on the transplant list, but if he isn't he might never see Simon again.

Ty is apparently heartbroken and is moping around.  Kev takes him for shandy and Maria comes into the Rovers and gives Ty a dressing down, saying that Fiz is at home doing the washing and cooking dinner - why is Ty getting smashed?  Ty points out that Fiz does not want him in the house.  Kev (who is forced to agree to a first dance at his forthcoming wedding reception) opens fire on Maria pointing out that her past behaviour is somewhat mixed in knocking off Aidan Connor and also treating Ty fairly badly when they were together.  Maria certainly had that coming!  Later however Ty admits that Maria has a point - he admits that he is a disgrace (above).

Seb is searching for rhymes for Nina as he suddenly wants to write poetry - Ribena seems to come out favourite.  He discounts Ford Cortina never having heard of John Cooper Clark.

Apparently Leanne and Nick are getting the furniture put into store so they are not expecting to return soon which will upset Gail who apparently had to curse the day they got together - she does not specify if that was the first time, the second time, the third time, oh I have lost count.

And the Baileys continue to descend into complete nonsense.  For reasons they cannot be bothered to explain Michael sends Ed out for a walk.  Then they remember that they need to explain that the paternity test result is due so James materialises.  Ronnie pops in but does not hang around for the results.  Michael shouts at everyone.  Can someone explain to Michael that less is more and if he stopped stomping and shouting and went back to being an inventor and cute we might like him - unlikely but the sooner he and Grace depart the better.  Eventually the envelope comes but of course Michael cannot open it.  James does the honours and confirms that Ken Barlow is the Daddy.  Turns out that Aggie was right all along.  Ed does not seem to enjoy the result and tells Ronnie to get lost (above).  I just lost it - why has no-one told Aggie?  Why is Ed not celebrating instead of being upset by it all.  Sorry but none of those involved are having the reactions or the involvement needed to make this story actually work.  Unless Dee Dee is worth having will someone please get all of the Baileys off the Street?  I suggest James gets a transfer and he buys them all houses out in Cheshire.

It is Cathy's sixtieth birthday and she is still being trolled - somehow someone knows her email address and telephone number so she is getting abusive texts and emails.  Given that this has moved on from social media it means it someone who actually knows her - so is Amy making her pay?  Is it Bernie - see above she is making all the right noises but we know from the Kel period that she knows her way around computers and the internet.  Whoever it is can afford to send a funeral wreath.  Some kids abuse someone in the kebab shop thinking it is Cathy and Dev is suggesting she does not go to work for a few days.  Who would really want to destabilise Cathy to the point of her having a breakdown - I think it is probably kids linked to Amy - Kelly perhaps?

Where did tonight go wrong?  You may have gathered I did not feel it was great.  The Baileys have been abused since they arrived with hidden secrets from each other, from the world at large and constant reminder of their ethnic origin stuffed down our throats.  Also to have Michael querying his paternity a few moments after he was the father of an un-related child just feels distinctly weird and the dates did not work for anyone other than Ronnie.  Ty - given the way he got screwed by Kev and Molly just makes it feel not like Ty.  And I never like it when individuals are not themselves.  Tracy tonight was being bitchy but come on - even she knew how important this was for Peter and there was no evidence - just Daniel making things up.  Finally I don't think Cathy would have ever trolled in the first place - again out of character.  It all feels terribly forced and wrong; it is not the writing or direction; some acting falls short and the whole thing needs something positive, relaxed, friendly and a feeling of the Street pulling together in the face of the virus.

I will probably return on a Friday in the near future!

Tonight was written by John Kerr and David Isaac whilst the directors were Lee Trevor and Ian Barber.

Ellie Leach interview: Could Faye be sent to jail?

How has Faye been coping the last few months after the incident with Ray, then Adam’s attack, turned her life upside down?
She still can’t really believe that all this has happened, I think the person she’s most worried about is Gary because he’s still in prison for her and that’s what is playing on her mind the most. She expected when she went to the police and told them that it was her that Gary would be released so she still has no idea what’s going to happen to either of them. She is confused and scared because she just doesn’t know what to expect.
So how does she feel on the day they’re due in court for sentencing?
She’s definitely scared and nervous but she knows that this day has been coming, she didn’t expect to just get away with what she did but she doesn’t know what is going to happen.
If she is sentenced to prison do you think that would be a massive shock?
It would be a shock but she knows she’s made mistakes and she has to pay for those mistakes, she’s just hoping not in prison. She’s a good person and she knows she has to take the blame for what she did but she also feels that she’s taking the blame for what Ray did to her and that’s really hard for her. She knows that what Ray did to her was wrong, whatever he says, and it will affect her for the rest of her life and now it feels like she’s paying for that.
How does it make her feel that Ray still hasn’t admitted to the assault on her?
That wasn’t a mistake, he knew what he was doing and so does she and she wants other people to know.
In the midst of all this we’ve seen Faye and Craig’s relationship move on to be more than just friends, it’s not the best timing though is it?!
No not really! I think she does genuinely love Craig, their relationship has grown from friendship and I think that’s what’s great about it. They’ve been friends for years, this hasn’t just happened overnight, they’ve built a relationship based on friendship and I think that really shows in the way they trust each other. Craig’s always been there for her over the years and genuinely loves and trusts him. It’s hard though because she’s thinking if she does go to prison, what’s he going to do, she wouldn’t ever tell him he has to wait for her.
Is that holding her back in the relationship?
Yeah definitely, I don’t think she wants to give too much because she doesn’t know if she’s going to be there forever and she doesn’t expect him to be waiting forever either.
Is she also worried about how this could impact on his job?
Yes definitely, if she does go to prison and he keeps in contact with her then he could possibly lose his job and she’s not prepared for that to happen. She tells him she thinks they should call it a day, she doesn’t want him to ruin his life for her.
How does Craig react to that?
He’s upset that she thinks that them being together is going to ruin his life, but in reality there is that chance. Fay’e trying to look at the bigger picture but Craig’s just consumed by the moment.
Gary is also up in court for perverting the course of justice, is Faye worried about Gary too?
Faye just wants Gary to be able to live his life again because the reason he’s in prison is her. She’s probably more worried about Gary than she is herself. He’s her brother and she thinks the world of him. Anything that anybody else is saying about him, like Kelly, Faye just doesn’t believe her brother would do that. Even when he tries to say he’s not all he’s cracked up to be Faye just can’t accept that.
How are you enjoying playing all this out - the Ray element, Gary and the romance with Craig?
I’m loving it, it’s like having three storylines rolled into one! The biggest storyline I’d had before this was the teen pregnancy but I was very young when I did that, 12/13, so it’s great playing the same character as she matures. I’m growing up alongside Faye, It’s also been really nice having all the family scenes, working so closely with Mikey again. The mix of emotions have been great to play, there have been scenes that have been super emotional but then some light hearted with Craig.
You’re not the only character who’s growing up on the show, alongside Craig, Asha, Aadi, Amy, Simon there’s a big group of you. Are you enjoying that bond?
There’s a really big group of us, ranging from 17 to in our early 20s and it’s what Corrie does really well. Yes there are older characters who’ve been there for years but there’s also always younger characters who have a lot of history. There’s a great mix of characters with someone that every family can relate to.
Do you enjoy having lots of younger people to work with now?
Yes it’s great to have people your own age, I love the mix. When I was younger I did a lot of scenes with Debbie, Mikey and Ian, I was always with adults, but I learnt a lot about how to be professional in a working environment

Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 12th April

Hello and welcome to Friday's episode. This is like Lockdown 1, when characters on t'cobbles would talk about it being Wednesday but it was actually the other half of Friday's episode shown on a Monday. I was pretty annoyed there was no Corrie last Friday, to be honest. In times of national calamity, we need our queen (Jenny Bradley).

It's the morning after the storylines before: Peter discovers that Simon was dealing drugs and also that Carla lied to him when Leanne asked for help. Nick also finds out about the drug running from the chippie from Dev and from Imran that Leanne is his client. "What is going on Toyah?" he asks. It's a mystery! Well not for very long as he goes round to his flat and tells Ms Battersby that he wuvs her and she wuvs him and blah. She still says she's leaving the Street and no, he can't come with her, because she can't make him choose between her and Sam. This is a re-run of the time that Leanne was going to move to Leeds (as if) and Nick stopped her, so this is all a bit moot. I'm a bit more interested in Imran's lovely hair, which has grown somewhat during that two week filming hiatus. Anyway, Nick says he's coming with her as they go away "indefinitely" (or at least until Jane Danson has had a proper break), leaving poor Sam disconsolate in Gail's front room.

Peter's got other business - meeting with his consultant at the hospital. His liver hasn't repaired itself and the next step is assessment for a transplant. There's no guarantee that he'll get on the list and then no assurance that there'll be a donor. He tells Carla and they agree that they're still going to get married (in secret).

George is in his funeral home - that looks like Emily Bishop's front room - busy polishing his coffin (missus). Because Todd is unable to deal with people without manipulating them, he tells Georgie-boy that Eileen thinks he is "classy and dignified", and then tells his ma that George won't stop talking about her. He reveals his evil plan to Billy to get them together so that he can put the fun into the funeral business. I guess he could put a lot of business Billy's way? It doesn't work out though as George gives Eileen a bunch of flowers with an "in sympathy" card attached and she stomps off, offended. No pie for George!

As an aside, I've only just realised that Todd 2.0 resembles Paddy Considine, n'est-ce pas?

The trolled troll Cathy says that her sister Nessa has insisted Alex go to stay with her in Scotland. So I guess that's an explanation as to why he's not in the programme at the moment, unlike Izzy, Beth, Audrey, Rita etc. Steve asks Dev to stop selling greetings cards and newspapers, because he hates all the nastiness between the Barlow-McDonalds and the Packham-Matthews. Gemma also apologises, so it looks like things are looking up for Cathy - until she gets more vicious messages and threats. I guess one of the writers has been reading Jon Ronson's So You've Been Publicly Shamed.

And that's all for Monday Friday.
