This should be interesting...and heartbreaking.
Finding Bethany drunk in Nathan's flat should surely be grounds for police intervention and the beginning of the end for Nathan. But since we know he will be on until the Fall, this huge scenario will what? Be excused?

I find interesting how this storyline is boiling down to a question of who is to blame - and the consensus seems to be Sarah. I'm old and therefore look back fondly on a time in Corrie when the stories focused more on a working class community. My perfect ending to this story would be if the community joined together to save both Bethany and Sarah. (As an aside, I can't help but rejoice for Sarah and Gary who, in the past weeks have had the first opportunity to enjoy some privacy in that house, free of the Gail-Nick-David dramas. When, until now, have they ever had the luxury to have meals alone? But, of course, it's all contrived to make them seem self-absorbed and unable to cope with Bethany's rebellion.) I like the idea of Mary and Craig getting involved, extending a helping hand, and hopefully understanding why Sarah is in over her head.
What grounds to call the police? Under the grounds of an adult plying a 16 year old with alcohol. As with any adult, if underage drinkers are caught at your home, you are responsible and can face very stiff penalties. These warnings are extremely prevalent now with prom season and house parties. Adults have to be adults and not the cool adult who lets underage drinkers get drunk in their home.
This would have opened up a police case against Nathan and started the ball rolling.
Teenager's will try alcohol. Despite how much you try to stop them. Did you have your first alcoholic drink at 18? I know I didn't. Mine was on a park bench, with my mates, but I would've much preferred it to be at home with an adult present. I wouldn't have got drunk, as I'm sure the sensible adult, or cool adult???? As you state, would've prevented this
