Listen: Interview with Coronation Street senior storyliner

Martin Sterling is the Coronation Street senior storyliner. And you can hear an interview with Martin over at Talking Story on their podcast. The interview fades out after a few minutes as it's just a preview but you can hear the whole thing by signing up to the podcast premium account if you so wish and all the money they raise there goes to charity.

Martin has worked on Coronation Street as a writer and storyliner since 2004 - and over the past decade has overseen some of the soap's biggest and most shocking storylines.

Most recently he had the gargantuan decision to make on Julie Hesmondhalgh’s (Hayley Cropper) exit from the show – deciding that Hayley would be diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer.

The interview includes Martin talking about the origins of each episode of Coronation Street and how it all begins. How Martin and his team choose the characters to give killer storylines to. The reason soaps sometimes revive older characters rather than introduce new ones. How Corrie deals with portraying major issues within society. The friendly rivalry between Corrie, Emmerdale and EastEnders. How Corrie's move to MediaCityUK has shaped the future of the show.

It's a great interview and you can listen to it here.
