Here we go with a look back at some of the Coronation Street icons from the 1970s. Let's find out what they've been up to since they left the show.
Johnny Briggs who played Mike Baldwin
Johnny Briggs played Mike Baldwin from 1976 to 2006.
Since leaving Coronation Street, Johnny Briggs has appeared on TV in Agatha Christie's Marple, Holby City, Moving Wallpaper, Echo Beach and Doctors.
He has also appeared in interviews for Corrie TV specials such as Farewell Vera, Coronation Street: 50 Years, 50 Moments, The Corrie Years. He reunited with former co-stars William Roache (Ken Barlow) and Anne Kirkbride (Deirdre Barlow) for the latter's tribute show Deirdre & Me - Forty Years on Coronation Street in 2012.
That same year Briggs also reprised the role of Mike Baldwin as the ghost of the character for the Text Santa Christmas Charity sketch, which was transmitted on 21st December 2012.
Sadly, Johnny tends to get his name into the papers for the wrong reasons due to the family problems with his daughter and grand-daughter. You can read more on that here.

You don't get to say it often about soap characters but they'll never be another Mike Baldwin. Johnny Briggs played him with so much depth: he could be ruthless, had several Achilles Heels, was equally fantastic at comedy and pathos. Johnny Briggs was very experienced in film work (don't know about theatre) so I guess that's a big advantage with TV. Had he stayed, Danny Baldwin might have been the modern version of Mike but Adam definitely isn't.
He certainly was unique. Just thinking about it for a minute, so many good storylines come to mind that had Mike in the middle of them, beyond the Deirdre affair. Can anyone remind me please, did Mike get fleeced by Julia Stone on behalf of Greg Kelly?
Yes, Julia Stone had an affair with him and blackmailed Mike with compromising pictures. It turned out she was in it with Greg for some reason. Maybe Corriepedia has more details.
I liked Mike Baldwin. The street could use someone like him. It's a pity for Adam that he's the odd man out in his family mostly because of old grudges.
The character of Mike Baldwin is something the program could use right now...a real swagger of charm...thought they had it with his son Danny (he was great with wife Frankie) Mark was a chip off the old block, and their taste in women was the same (he left with Mike's wife Lynda)....which brings us to the only Baldwin son left....Adam Barlow....he had such potential when he came back.
Smoking a cigar (just like Mike) and driving a hot car.
I'd like to see him embrace his heritage and become so embittered by his marriage to Sara that he becomes the new Mike Baldwin..Big shoes to fill!!
