Jean Alexander Memorial Bench Unveiled
A very special memorial bench has been unveiled to honour soap legend Jean Alexander, who played Hilda Ogden in Coronation Street.
The bench was unveiled ahead of the opening of Southport Flower Show by Brooke Vincent, who plays Sophie Webster. Southport Flower Show begins on Thursday August 17 and will run until Sunday August 20.
Jean Alexander's lawnmower was also at the event, which had been borrowed from Southport's British Lawnmower Museum.
Jean, who sadly passed away at the age of 90 last October, lived in Southport for many years and was a regular visitor to the annual flower show in Victoria Park.
Brooke Vincent, 25, said: "Jean was a true legend of Coronation Street and has always been an inspiration to me. Even after all these years, Hilda Ogden remains one of Weatherfield's greatest characters.
"I'm so pleased to be able to honour Jean's memory here in Southport, her home town and a place that she loved."
There is a short video of Brooke on the bench, speaking about Jean Alexander and the legacy that she leaves to Coronation Street. You can watch it here.
If you are interested in attending the show, and seeing the bench for yourself, tickets are still available at www.southportflowershow.co.uk
