And now, the Manchester Evening News reveals that Coronation Street icon Jean Alexander will be celebrated at the special screening with Hilda Ogden’s final ever scenes to be screened to fans after being salvaged from Granada archives.
Many think that Hilda, known for her headscarf and curlers, rolled out of Weatherfield in an emotional scene on Christmas Day 1987 - when a staggering 27 million viewers watched.
But Hilda, played by the late and much loved Jean Alexander , actually returned to the Rovers for a one-off special in 1990 to help raise money for charity as part of ITV’s Telethon.
And said scenes – where she pops into the pub and then speaks to husband Stan at his graveside – have been recovered by film archivists Kaleidoscope and will be aired for the first time in over a quarter of a century at arts centre HOME on Monday at a special Coronation Street Celebration event.
Hilda’s last bow is being shown as part of the celebration of 60 years of Granada Television and will be hosted by a panel including Corrie actress Sally Dynevor, who has played the Street’s Sally Metcalfe since 1986, and first encountered Hilda when she dated the Ogden’s lodger Kevin Webster.

A 1976 episode featuring Albert Tatlock criticising Ken Barlow for living in sin with Wendy Nightingale, plus a two-hander starring Sarah Lancashire and Kevin Kennedy as Raquel and Curly Watts (year 2000) will also get an airing at the event.
Writers John Stevenson and Debbie Oates, producer Kieran Roberts and actor Connor McIntyre (who played arch villain Phelan) will take questions after the showing.
Gareth Kavanagh from organisers of the event, Room 5064 said: “This is a cinematic treat for all those who love Britain’s biggest soap, and Coronation Street fans are going to see what an important find Hilda’s return is. It contains all the ingredients that made Hilda as popular as the Royal Family back in the 1980s and her acerbic wit is to the fore.glenda.young@btinternet.com
"Her emotional scene at Stan’s grave also reminds us what a superb actor Jean Alexander was. The screening is truly a fitting tribute to a television great who we sadly lost this year.”

Oh I love that, and have never seen it before. Is there any chance the whole occasion will be televised to air at a later date? I would love to see the rest of that clip.
