Bill Tarmey's grandson to make Coronation Street cameo

Today's Sunday Mirror reveals that the grandson of the late Bill Tarmey, who played Jack Duckworth, will be turning up on Coronation Street in a cameo role.

Bill's grandson is actor Matt Piddington who says he fulfils his promise to his grandad that he would try his hand at a TV acting career

Matt Piddington’s cameo role as an extra in the Rovers Return, will be shown next month.

Matt, 21, said: “It would have been great if me and Grandad could have been in the Rovers at the same time but I know he was looking down from heaven smiling. I could feel he was with me saying, ‘Go on lad I am so proud of you’."

“I had nerves but they felt like good nerves,” he said. “I remembered all grandad’s advice, like ‘less is more’ and ‘it’s all in the eyes’.”

Matt landed his part with help from Corrie’s Alan Halsall, who plays Tyrone Dobbs. Alan, a close pal of Bill, put him touch with an agent who set up auditions where Matt impressed the directors.

He looks a lot more suited to the role of Tommy Duckworth than Chris Fountain does. Such a shame that the show is cast so superficially today.

Superficially? For heaven's sake, the lad's appearing as an extra! Chris Fountain is at least an experienced actor. Who's being superficial here? Great that he 'impressed an agent' but walk-on artists don't usually even audition.
