There’s an oddness about Corrie right now. We’re coming to the end of ex- producer Kate Oates’ storylines. We’re in transition, which isn’t good viewing and I’m sad to say that I’ve found this week, well, turgid. There, I’ve said it. Let’s hope things pick up for a proper Corrie Christmas that new producer Iain MacLeod has promised.
The one highlight for me this week has been Carla Connor and I’m longing for her and Peter to get back together. Instead, she’s saddled with Nicky-no-mates as her business partner. Nick’s wife Elsa arrives and Carla tells Nick that he’s to sell her back his share of the factory or she’ll tell Leanne about Elsa. Good one, Carla. Nick’s got his knickers in a right old twist.
Elsewhere this week, Rana proposes to Kate proposes to Rana. Double diamond works wonders and both ladies say yes. But then Kate talks babies and IVF treatment and desperately wanting to become a mum. Imran warns them both: “A baby is for life, not just for Instagram.” Rana is less enthusiastic about the whole baby thing and you know this relationship is on a hiding to nothing, but still the wedding plans steam right ahead.
Evelyn gets right on Fiz’s wick especially when she finds, and wears, a pair of Vera’s old ear-rings. Tyrone has a word with Evelyn and is torn between his nan and his wife.
With Sally still locked up, Gina starts to get cosy with Tim and it’s clear he enjoys her company. But then Gina starts to have feelings for Tim, making him feel uncomfortable. Tim confides in his dad who tells him to act cool with Gina. Meanwhile, Sally sets up a yoga class for the girls on her prison wing.
Over at Streetcars, Steve takes on Abi who’s less than adept in her customer care, it’s fair to say. But he has more pressing things on his mind when he wants Tracy to give him another chance. She’s keen, but when Amy finds out her parents are getting back together, she’s not best pleased. She asks Adam to draw up a contract for Tracy and Steve. And only if they fulfil Amy’s terms will she drop her protest against them.
And that’s just about that for this week.

Agree that Carla has been the highlight of this week! The blackmail scenes last night felt very much like the Carla of the late noughties!
I wonder what McLeod thinks of the Carla and Peter pairing and, as an extension, the Nick and Leanne pairing and square between them all? Given how it's revival was orchestrated entirely by Kate Oates, I wonder if McLeod shall continue with it because it's there or whether he'll take them in different directions and abandon that plan? It's hard to tell with the long transition!
Carla didn't tell Elsa that she'd been in a relationship with Nick so I expect that is yet to come out. Does anyone really care who owns the factory? Give it away to charity. The real chemistry is between Peter and Leanne and that doesn't mean they should re-unite. They're better apart so that their sparky relationship isn't sullied by inevitable affairs.
Anything to do with Peter, Leanne, Nick and Carla is beyond boring and died a death so long ago. I wish they'd get off this merry go round. It's lazy writing.
