7. David Platt's Rape (2018)
Recently Corrie has taken a slightly darker turn and done some very hard hittng storylines, which I know haven't been to everyone's taste, and I completely understand that, but personally I think they've all been fantastically acted and sensitively portrayed. On the subject of this storyline, let's be honest, I don't think there's a single situation that Jack P Shepherd can't pull off convincingly, he's one of the best. Ryan Clayton was also horribly convincing as Josh who befriended David over a few weeks then drugged him and took him back to his flat. We didn't see the act itself obviously, but let's be honest, we didn't need to. The aftermath of what Josh did has been a bit of a slow burner over the past few months, making it all the more convincing, and coming to a satisfying conclusion recently.
What I liked about it was the way it didn't feel like it was being sensationalised, which can be all too easy to do in a soap. As is unfortunately so often the way in real life situations like this, Josh didn't go to prison, and he didn't get murdered either which you might also expect in soapland. Instead he was viciously attacked by another potential victim that Billy the vicar had tipped off, causing him to lose his sight, before Billy stepped in to try and make him face up to his crimes. Of course, Josh wouldn't, and in the end Billy gave up and David drove off with Josh, pretending they were going to the police which exposed Josh for the coward he really was, thus finally giving David closure and a chance to get his life back. Hats off to everyone involved in this gem.

Another great choice. This storyline turned out to be so much better than I expected, and the conclusion was good, not the usual soap ending.
