Claire King, who plays Erica Holroyd on Coronation Street, has spoken today about her fears that she might be axed from the show when the new producer Kate Oates comes in.
In an interview with The Mirror today, Claire says: “I don’t know if I will be safe. They always like to put their own stamp on things, I have been around the block a few times so I know how it works.
“It will be fine if she feels the character does not work. We are all self-employed and you adapt and change when things happen.”
When new Corrie producer Kate Oates worked at Emmerdale she killed off a number of characters in a helicopter crash.
I do hope Claire doesn't get the chop as I'm enjoying Erica a lot. I just wish they'd kept her strong and single instead of pairing her off with comedy Dev.
What you do you reckon?

Totally agree on her being paired off with Dev. That's ridiculous. Why does everyone need to be hooked up with someone? That's not reality.
I like Erica. Why not give her a more interesting storyline that who she's going to bed.
I must admit that Erica has grown on me and I agree it was a mistake to make her get off with Dev, or anyone really. Lots of folk, especially "mature" ones, are single but still manage to lead a full life, so why this need in soaps to pair everyone off? Particularly as the scriptwriters always split them up eventually?
The trouble is that Erica like many of the characters hasn't got a look in during the Platt months. Every one of the Platts had an individual story so Erica never had the opportunity to shine. I like her but I'd soon get over it if she left. Being paired with Dev hasn't helped her chances of survival. What I would like to know is when does Karen Oates start work officially.
I agree abut Dev. Erica is a strong interesting character who can mix it up with all sorts, has a family life off screen and a best friend. Dev is kind but insecure and silly man who only knows how to make money and be a dad. Erica is one of the least maternal women on tv. I see Dev and Mary better suited to each other, and Erica as the life of the party and maybe teaching mixology. Wish Erica and Sarah would switch jobs. I think if she were in the Rovers, it would be a more fun place to go, and she'd be more job secure.
I like Erica, she's grown on me and she's great with Liz especially now she has lost Deidre. And I think there's a real need for 50-something women with attitude and still a lot to play for in Corrie. I do hope she doesn't get the axe. I don't even mind her with Dev, a.thpugh I agree this insistence of pairing everyone up is a little tiresome and unimaginative.
On the other hand, the new producer might consider a helicopter crash with a whole load of Platts involved...
Yup, I love Erica and Liz together. And I love the fact that she is a strong, single woman "of a certain age". Also, she does have an open mind about all sorts of things, unlike many of the characters on the Street. Although it took me awhile to warm to her, I would now be upset if she left.
I'm liking Erica more and more, she is wasted in Dev's shop, she should be behind the bar.
She's come a long way since Kim Tait with a wonky accent, I don't mind if she stays now. If they're killing people off they should start with Ken!
I also hope that Erica doesn't get the chop as she is one of the few genuine characters on the Street.I love how she took Mary under her wing after the Brendan heartbreak and their friendship.I even like her with Dev.
I wouldn't have her trade places with Sarah though, could you imagine Sarah's scowling face greeting you when you enter the shop? Not to mentions the freebies she'll give to her family and her latest boyfriend.
I also agree with comments that about the possibility of the Platts or even the Barlows get axed instead.I would like to add the Websters and Michelle to that wish list.
I wouldn't miss this character..they don't seem to know what to do with her now..throw her at Dev I guess..sad. Maybe she can get behind the bar at the Rovers for a bit.
I've warmed to her, but not crazy about her being with Dev, that seems to be too contrived. Why not just leave her single with being a great friend to Liz, Mary, Izzy, Cathy - quit with the pairing everybody off, however she may just work with Freddie - Ericka on the back of his bike? Who knows it may just work.
Erica who? No two ways about it, this enormous cast needs to be culled. There's only a handful of them who appear on the screen regularly anyway.
I really don't enjoy this character and I wouldn't miss her.
I have loved Erica since Day 1. Fun, beautiful, savvy, non-judgemental, kind-hearted. She's a breath of fresh air against all the angst-ridden main female characters. Please keep her as bezzy mate, second banana, whatever! Not everyone needs to have a big dramatic story line. But we do need realistic, down-to-earth people like her.
