Bill Roache, who plays Ken Barlow in Coronation Street, gave a moving interview to ITV's This Morning yesterday. Tuesday 19 January was the first anniversary of the death of his Corrie co-star Anne Kirkbride, who played Deirdre Barlow for 42 years.
You can watch the video interview below:
Bill said of Anne Kirkbride: "She was such a presence, everybody was aware she was around. Humour was always a great thing with her. We only grieve because we miss her. I know she's fine - she's gone to a very happy place. And now we celebrate her life and think about the happy moments, of which there were many. Annie was always up for a laugh whenever. So we do miss her, but we're privileged to have been with her and to have known her for that length of time."
"The worst moment for me was the first time on set after she'd died, because she was a big presence. Whenever she arrived on the set, it was 'hello' to everyone. There were hugs, kisses and lots and lots of laughter. She was a very loving presence and a very loving person, so that really hit me quite hard for a while. But like I said, it's good to get over that and think about the good times, enjoy them and to celebrate her life."
Deirdre: A Life on Coronation Street is the official ITV tribute book to a Street legend.
