Ian Puleston-Davies in Beowulf

It has been almost 9 months since we saw Ian Puleston-Davies bid farewell to Coronation Street and the role of Owen Armstrong, the self-made builder with a long memory and a short fuse.

There was only one thing that made his departure any way palatable to me at the time, and that was that I think he is a great actor, and I looked forward to seeing his talents displayed in a different role.

So, while I think he is sorely missed from Corrie, the good news is that he is set to appear in a new fantasy adaptation of Beowulf.

Ian will play Lagrathorn, Thane of Banning, and, as this picture shows, it's a far cry from the check-shirts and steel capped boots of the builder's yard, and the comfort of the cobbles.

In an interview with Ian Wylie, which you can read in full here, Ian talks about leaving Corrie, his hopes for the future once the decision to depart had been made, and what it's like to take on such a completely different role in such an interesting location.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Ian when he visited Ireland with Mikey North on their Men at Work tour, and you can also read that here.

Catch Ian in Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands tonight, Sunday 10 January, on ITV at 7pm
