Paula Lane announces her second pregnancy

Paula Lane, who plays Kylie Platt in Coronation Street, has announced she's pregnant with her second baby.  Paula and her husband Tom Shaw already have a son, Arthur who was born arrived on New Year's Eve in 2014.

With the announcement of her pregnancy, the actress will be taking maternity leave from Corrie later this year. I wonder how they'll write her out this time? Maybe she'll get found out for murdering Callum?

Paula tweeted this last night:

Perfect opportunity to refocus the show away from the Platts. I wouldn't write Paula out at all - just focus on other characters and when we do see David, Gail, Max etc, let them reference Kylie being at the shops or on a night out with Eva. That's what they used to do in the old days and it would rebalance the programme. What we don't need is a contrived and interminable exit story.

Let's wind the Callum story up already. It could conclude in different ways. Callum's body is found and Sarah drops Kylie in it. Kylie's convicted of manslaughter and goes down for the length of Paula Lane's maternity leave. Or Callum is alive and well and starts texting Kylie. She goes on the run to escape him, Callum is killed and Kylie returns after PL's leave. Despite the usual stuff about 'doors being kept open' and 'really looking forward to returning', I don't think Kylie will return or maybe briefly to tie up loose ends.If David P Shepherd wants to do other things, the young Platts will eventually leave as a family.

Very happy for Paula and her family, but she will be missed. Oh please, writers, just spare us the dramatics. Why not let Kylie be surprised by an unexpected pregnancy. No room or money for another little Platt? David and Max dealing with a stillbirth while Kylie takes Lily for an extended visit with Becky to recuperate in the sunny Caribbean would be different and a slightly more realistic story than living in fear of a thug. And I hope they never leave - David and Kylie are wonderful.

If they need to wrap up Callum, let them find the body and trace it back to Chez Platt. There's a trial, nerves are frayed, leads up to 'I was only trying to stop him from killing Sarah...we were scared and didn't know what to do', acquittals all around.

While we're at it, while they're leaving, Gail trips on the courthouse's marble staircase, bangs her head, and dislodges the thing that's made her act like an imbecile for the past 5 years. Ted dies and leaves her some £££. She takes an accounting course and starts a small bookkeeping business.

Seems to me that Kylie has hardly been back and her return has not been pleasant at all. The story regarding Callum was just plain stupid from the beginning. The police should have been called right from the start. No one would have ended up in jail not with Callums reputation and if there had been a court case there would have been enough people to testify regarding the mean, dangerous type of person he was. Besides if it had been reported right away they would have tested Sarah for the rape date pill or whatever Callum gave her, saw the bruises etc. and the story would have been accepted. Some times the writers treat the fans as if they are brain dead idiots. I have always hope that Kylie and David, who seems to have grown up into a fairly decent husband and father, would have been together for a long time or, god forbid, maybe forever. I don't know, I continue to watch and wonder why I watch this show.

Humpty Dumpty,I agree with your theory that Sarah will probably drop Kylie and maybe David in it by showing the police the text she sent on Kylie's phone to lure him there, saying Kylie sent it frame them both for Callum's murder to get her revenge on David just she framed him to get the job in Milan standing there with a smug smile on her face as they're arrested.

I'm wondering if the body will be found and Jason wrongly accused at first and set up by Kylie and David. Sarah comes to his rescue at the 11th hour and they leave together for a new start wherever Tony went to (Birmingham?). Kylie is sent down for manslaughter(the right thing to do) for the appropriate time. I hope Paula returns but within a more stable Platts with a new direction for them, for a good while at least.

Whilst it's lovely news that's she's having a baby, it does only feel she's been back 5 mins. We tolerated all that time with her first absence with the ridiculous Callum/ Max/ David story that lasted forever, only for her to return and it continue. I just hope, please that they just don't write another David/ Kylie bust up that's been done to death. They are good together. It wouldn't be realistic to break them up once more, then put them back AGAIN. A little imagination now writers and it doesn't have to be camp gangsters, bodies, drugs etc.

Please don't even think of convicting kylie only for her to get off a few months later - that story has been done to the death.
