Time for Ted Page to return to Corrie?
Just where is Gail's dad, Ted Page? He disappeared three years ago and has vanished without trace. I was more than a little disappointed at the time as I thought he was a great character and brought much needed sanity to the Platt/McIntyre/Roberts household.
His absence from Gail's trial following Joe's death was never really explained and he's not been mentioned in any great detail since. Surely now would be the perfect opportunity to bring Ted back?
Gail's long lost gay dad would be the perfect person to reunite the family and put an end to all their squabbles. He would be a voice of reason and a good influence on Nick and David. He could also sort out the differences between Gail and Audrey.
I loved the impact finding Ted had on Gail. We got to see a completely different side to her and it was incredibly touching to see her bond with the dad she never knew, in middle age. It was also amusing to see Audrey's nose put out of joint. Who can forget the moment Audrey thought her involvement with Ted all those years ago had turned him gay?!
Also, given Gail's current financial situation, perhaps Ted would be in a position to offer advice and practical support? Maybe what Gail needs at the moment is a nice long break in London with her father? (Not that I want rid of her or anything)....I just think it's strange that Ted hasn't been mentioned.
Rather than Gail finding another man to share her life with, I think she would do well to reconnect with her father. So do you agree? Would you like to see Ted Page back in Weatherfield? As usual, let's have your comments below!

Yeah I'd love to see Ted back on the street. As well as his relationship with the Platts, I enjoyed his friendship with Ken.
Ted would indeed provide the Voice of Reason for the Platt household! Many things have happened since he left!
No it would not be credible after this length of time with the character not mentioned for him suddenly to be parachuted back in the midst of it. He was a great character and should never have just disapppeared the way he did. But now that he has leave it at that.
I wasn't suggesting they just parachute the character back in Frosty! We agree he was a great addition so why not have him back? Perhaps Gail could go and stay with him in London and he could reappear with her after a time away.
And anyway, when has credibility mattered in the past?!
YES, bring him back - he was a fantastic character.

Don't see why he can't come back. Hasn't stopped other characters returning before, and Ted has a reason to, despite being absent for a while.
The reason he didn't attend the trial was because he was ill, but the last time he was mentioned was when Gail spoke to him on the phone when being found not guilty while she was returning back to the street.
You asked the question should Ted return, whether he comes by high speed train, Street cars cab or parachute it is of no matter, there is no need for rudeness from you!
Rudeness isn't my style thank you - And I did say we agreed on certain things. I was only expressing an opinion on your opinion :)
Frosty - calm down dear, it's only a fictional soap opera.
Graeme - wonderful post. I also loved Ted Page and find it more than a little odd that his disappearance was never mentioned and he's not been missed.
Thanks! My only thought on his disappearance may be down to the actor's availability? Michael Byrne is quite a well known actor so maybe we couldn't or wouldn't commit long term?
Ted could only come back with a different head as Michael Byrne has never stopped working in films and tv since he left Corrie. On that basis, I think it would be a a mistake as it was with Ryan.
When characters leave it would make far more sense if the were mentioned once in a while. Ted was great but it's like he vanished into thin air. I hate how they did that like as if us the viewers are too stupid to notice.
Even those who leave for pastures new are never mentioned again. Wouldn't it be nice if Rita were to say she'd had a Christmas/ birthday card, phone call from Mavis or some throw away line like that? It would be a nice touch.
But what they did with Ted was extraordinary. Just went, never to be mentioned again. How they would bring him back would be odd, unless as somebody mentioned, Gail would go and stay with him for a while and then he would come back with her. He could help her stand on her own two feet again. Help bring back the Gail that was likeable, the business woman that ran and part owned a cafe. Not the simpering, silly woman who is treated like an idiot and not respected by Nick at the Bistro.
Everybody including TPTB and her children have forgotten the old Gail and what she was capable of, and made her stupid instead and more like the village idiot even when serving customers - she ran her own cafe for goodness sake.
So yes, bringing back Ted could be the only way forward for Gail.
Yes, bring him back if nothing else than to come to Gail's rescue. It's pretty easy to see that she's had a nervous breakdown.
If Ted is brought back (and I would also love to see that), it must be with the SAME head!

I agree totally! I don't like the head swapping antics!
Didn't Gail once work in a cafe? Surely Roy or another coffee shop could do with her capable hands to work there. It would keep her sane and earn some much needed money and maybe a live in job as a flat of sorts could be part of the deal. It would be lovely for her dad to come back for a brief visit and sort out the motley crew - give Stella a run for her money even have a word with Norris anything can happen.
I for one would love to see the wonderful Ted return but I have a horrible feeling TPTB may see a way of resolving Gail's financial dilemma by killing Ted off in absentia and him leaving gail a nice little legacy. Hoping and praying that I'm wrong.
