Time for Ted Page to return to Corrie?

Just where is Gail's dad, Ted Page? He disappeared three years ago and has vanished without trace. I was more than a little disappointed at the time as I thought he was a great character and brought much needed sanity to the Platt/McIntyre/Roberts household.

His absence from Gail's trial following Joe's death was never really explained and he's not been mentioned in any great detail since. Surely now would be the perfect opportunity to bring Ted back? 

Gail's long lost gay dad would be the perfect person to reunite the family and put an end to all their squabbles. He would be a voice of reason and a good influence on Nick and David. He could also sort out the differences between Gail and Audrey. 

I loved the impact finding Ted had on Gail. We got to see a completely different side to her and it was incredibly touching to see her bond with the dad she never knew, in middle age. It was also amusing to see Audrey's nose put out of joint. Who can forget the moment Audrey thought her involvement with Ted all those years ago had turned him gay?! 

Also, given Gail's current financial situation, perhaps Ted would be in a position to offer advice and practical support? Maybe what Gail needs at the moment is a nice long break in London with her father? (Not that I want rid of her or anything)....I just think it's strange that Ted hasn't been mentioned.

Rather than Gail finding another man to share her life with, I think she would do well to reconnect with her father. So do you agree? Would you like to see Ted Page back in Weatherfield? As usual, let's have your comments below!

Corrie's Ted Page in new Harry Potter film

Michael Byrne, the actor who plays Gail's dad Ted Page in Coronation Street, has a role in the new Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.

Michael plays Gellert Grindelwald and it's a real 'blink and you'll miss him' kind of a role but if you're off to see the film, keep a look out for him.

Corrie characters gone AWOL

There's a couple of Coronation Street characters we haven't seen on screen in a while and I'm starting to miss them.

The first is Gail's dad, Ted Page. We know the actor has been doing this so he's been unavailable for filming in Corrie, but still, what with the court case and Gail in jail, you'd've thought he would at least have been mentioned. Does NuNick even know he's got a grandad?

And where's Aunty Pam with her knock-off ham?

Any more characters that you're missing?

Ted, Ted, wherefore art thou, Ted?

Anyone wondering where Gail's dad Ted is at the moment, when all the cops are hanging round chez Platt, and you'd think he'd be there to support his daughter? Well, actor Michael Byrne who plays Ted on Coronation Street is currently gearing up to play Romeo at The Bristol Old Vic.

There's paparazzi pictures of Gail Platt marrying Joe McIntyre, here. And by the look of it in this pic, Ted gaves his daughter away on her big day. It's going to be Coronation Street's first wedding of 2010 and was filmed at Ryecroft Hall in Manchester.

Gary Windass to spark poppy controversy

According to the Mirror, character Gary Windass' comments about Ted Page's poppy could just spark a public outcry. He's going to be speculating about the cost of making the jacket lapel decorations and how much profit you could make on the side. As we know, these poppies mark the rememberence for fallen soldiers and the tradition began after World War I, owing to the fame of the poem In Flanders Fields. Now, the Mirror quotes a source who reckons Gary's words are "sick" but that seems a bit of an exaggeration. In my Corrie experience, any time something like this comes up, they're actually using it to inform people and if Ted is the bearer of the explanation, it will be handled with dignity and Gary will be put firmly in his place. As he should be. And Yay! That also means Ted will be back for a visit!

Corrie weekly awards, week of June 15 - 19

Bet Lynch retro award: Julie's hair-do. Can a complex beehive and long cheap earrings be far behind? Julie's certainly got a style all of her own, doesn't she?

I Am Completely Taken In Award: Maria actually said "You are so cute sometimes" to Tony after he made her laugh with jokes about his porridge spurtle, kilt and sporran.

I Defy Gravity Award: How on earth did Rosie keep all that flesh and cleavage inside her blouse when she strutted across the room and leaned over the desk in front of Stape (aka Prisoner 666). You'd think there would be some sort of order that he isn't allowed to communicate with Rosie? She sure had a lot of contempt for him, as you would think, but she didn't mind taking his money.

Grace Under Pressure Award: Ever The Voice Of Reason, Ted only puts blame where blame is due and even then, he can manage to more or less forgive David because he loves his grandson though makes no excuses for him.

Ramsay to Sean: "We can't remember if it was Richard or John that succeeded Henry II." Sean: "Erm... I'm better with queens!"
Janice about Luke: "A flatterer and a boozer. I want him for my birthday present!" Sean: "Get in line." (indeed)

Ted Page, Patriarch and Voice of Reason

Ha! A comment on last night's update post by Nurse Florence Ganderpoke made me realise that the commenter and I are of like mind.

I, too, think Ted is the Voice of Reason and I wrote about it here at some length. Ted is one of the best characters to interact with the Platt family in ages. He is the solid anchor in their continuous mayhem and has slipped into the patriarch chair effortlessly from the day he showed up. He's been sensible, loyal, non-judgmental and pragmatic and seems to get the measure of everyone and every situation.

He's marvellous and I want him for my granddad!

Corrie Guardian Angel: Ted Page or Aunty Pam?

Who would you rather have for your Guardian Angel (I know such things don't exist but humour me, please) on Coronation Street? There's a choice of two - so think on and think hard.
