Irene Sutcliffe, who played Coronation Street's Maggie Clegg, passed away earlier this month, aged 88.
Margaret "Maggie" Cooke (née Preston, previously Clegg) was Betty Turpin's younger sister and owner of the Coronation Street Corner Shop from 1968 to 1976.
As the unlucky-in-love Maggie, running the corner shop and coping with an alcoholic husband (John Sharp) and adopted son Gordon (Bill Kenwright), Irene Sutcliffe had some outstanding scenes with Street stalwarts Elsie Tanner, Ena Sharples and Len Fairclough, with an especially memorable late, soul-baring episode with Eileen Derbyshire’s Emily Nugent.
There is a beautiful tribute to the actress in The Stage.

Excellent actress. Wasn't Bill Kenwright's character called Gordon?
Yes, the perils of cut and paste I'm afraid. The one sentence I brought in from the otherwise wonderful article at The Stage (and credited, of course) but alas contained wrong information from them.
Very sad to hear this. The character of Maggie was a great favourite of mine in the late 60s and early 70s. By the way, her final appearance was on 13th January 1975...
