Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 1st July

It's a new month but we have an old story, that of men trying to control women. It has been done before on Corrie - remember Charlie the builder keeping Shelley locked up in the Rovers? But a bit different now in that the couple featured are in their dotage. I wonder if Tim's mum will turn up to warn Yasmeen off Geoff or Sally will try to persuade Yasmeen to kick him out, causing rifts between her and Tim.

Anyway, it's the morning after the burglary before and Yasmeen discovers that her jewellery is missing, for which Geoff immediately blames DJ JD and the other one, and states that strangers mustn't be allowed in the house ever again. He changes the locks and gets his reward when Yasmeen apologises to him for her "stupidity". Alya finds the boys but they deny breaking in, just before she sees Geoff with Yasmeen's necklace, which he claims is a new one, and can even produce the receipt to prove it. But later we see him meeting up with "Little" Baz in order to sell Yasmeen's stuff and - to add insult to thievery - he rips up Kal's photo. Instead of kicking him to the kerb and stomping on his windpipe, Yasmeen apologises again and begs him to come back to the house, whereby Alya says she's moving out. Leaving Yasmeen alone with THAT MONSTER.

Talking of storylines being recycled, Maria, not wanting to spend another night with Audrey and Gail and their foot-spa, sets up a profile on a dating website, not realising that a) "Netflix and chill" doesn't mean Netflix and chill and b) Dr Ali has latterly noticed her bouncy locks and perfect skin and terrible Robert de Niro impression. I suppose he likes the older lady (Carla) and she likes the young 'uns (Luke).

Posh Paula tells Nick he needs to stop antagonising people and get people on side, so he tries to charm Audrey in the caff, which is actually breaking his bail conditions, and anyway, she wants nowt to do with him. Leanne suggests that she invite Gail and Audrey around for a girly birthday afternoon tea (she should probably take advice from Maria on that score) in order to win them 'round. Audrey has a funny turn on the way there and Nick comes back to find Leanne alone. He throws a wobbly and storms 'round chez Platt and attacks David just as Gail returns with news of Audrey's angina attack. Nick blames the 2013 car crash and subsequent brain injury for his behaviour, which Leanne says they can make use of in court. Come on, Leanne, Nick's been a git since he was Adam Rickitt.

Sean has a date, which Paul tries to scupper by sending a saucy text from Sean's phone. Billy gets annoyed with him, Paul gets annoyed with Billy, so I guess a Sean/Paul feud is being set up. Handbags at 8.30 p.m.

Oh and Sarah, who's a businesswoman now apparently, worries that Carla will take the reins of the factory when she returns from her breakdown tomorrow (Wednesday). It aint your name above the door, Sarah-Lou!

I spend half my time wondering what day and time it is supposed to be. At first I thought it was the weekend with so many people not at work or in the pub at odd times and Leanne asking Gail and Audrey round in the afternoon. But then Maria gets a call from the school so it must have been Monday.
Sean and Billy seemed to be the only ones at work before they went, so how many workers would want to go back for Sarah's announcement when they must have been halfway home by then.
And why would Emma work in the pub at lunchtime if she was working with Maria?
