Tracy Shaw interview: Coronation Street changed my life

Tracy Shaw, who played Maxine Peacock on Coronation Street, will be starring on stage in Beyond Therapy. It's a play that's going on tour and you might be able to find dates at a theatre near you - check here.

Here, Tracy gives us an insight into life after Corrie and on stage in Beyond Therapy.

What has been the highlight of your acting career to date?

Obviously the highlight of my career to date was working on Coronation Street for 10 years.
Working with the most amazing actors, directors, producers and crew.

What was it like to be in coronation Street?

It changed my life completely working on Coronation Street, it’s a national intuition!

What attracted you to this production?

Beyond Therapy is such a well written play by Christopher Durang, dealing with so many issues. The comedy and the part of prudence and her journey is what attracted me to this play.

How is your character like you or different to you?

I always have to find myself in every character I play. I have to find their true emotions as a starting place and build the character from there.

What do you love / hate about your character?

I love Prudence’s spirit and vulnerability!

What is your favourite line in the play?

My favourite line from the play (at the moment although I’m sure it will change as we get into rehearsals) is:
‘A two minute roll in the hay with you, where you make no distinction between sexual intercourse and push-ups and then a happy evening of admiring your underarm hair and your belt buckles?’

Do you think you would make a good therapist?

I don’t believe I’d make a good therapist because I’d be too out spoken but I’d be a lot better than Stuart Therapists in this play (played by Matt Lapinskas).

What do you love doing most, outside of theatre?

When I’m not working in the theatre I love to see my sons ️and walk my dog Myla.

Who would love this play and why should they come to see it?

Everyone should come and watch Beyond Therapy for a wonderful evening of mixed emotions but mostly laughter. It really is a hilarious comedy, edgy, witty and laugh out loud.

I look forward to seeing you all there.
