Actor Simon Gregson's wife, Emma Gleave, posted on twitter last night that the dog starring in Corrie is actually a family pet. Simon Gregson also posted confirmation to twitter:
Cookie AKA rover is our dog yes to those asking and yes she is now a diva and yes she's single but not looking for anyone just yet
— simon gregson (@simongregson123) May 4, 2015
If you follow Emma on twitter she has posted more pics of the dog at home. The dog is a "she" not an "it" as was pointed out on Corrie last night and at home anyway, her name is Cookie. In the show, the dog will be named Rover
How lovely!

Lovely little thing and pleased to see she is Simon's own pet.
Delighted that Cookie/rover is representing our canine friends. I like Steve/Simon even more now I know he has a dog.
Great chemistry between Simon and the hound. A well-behaved dog she is too!
I loved when she started licking Lloyd's face. Obviously an old friend.
Steve's going to need a faithful friend to replace Lloyd :-(
Lovely scenes with Steve and this great little dog! I also like the idea of a dog playing a role in Steve's recovery, showing the therapeutic and positive effects animals have on a person's wellbeing.
I agree --it's fabulous to showcase the many benefits animals provide to their two legged friends.
She looks like a Spanish Podenco. The rescue centres in Spain always have these gorgeous dogs ready to be adopted. I rescued one 4 years ago and she is so loving.
No she isn't a Podenco - I live in Spain and have a couple of these, they are more like greyhounds - I think maybe you mean a Ratonero Bodeguero, which are like Jack Russells but with long legs - I have one of those as well and they are the most delightful dogs :)
However, Steve's dog looks like a normal short-legged Jack Russell
Please, I beg of you ley steve have that beautiful little dog as his own on Corrie, I know its only fiction, but I am sure the scenes where
Steve was so terribly depressed, this little dog came into his life at the right time, animals are wonderful therapy, oh Simon you are so lucky to own that little treasure, wish she were mine. x
