Yay or Nay - Gemma and Craig as a Corrie couple?

There was a lovely little touch in last night's Coronation Street. In the court room at the trial of Kylie's killer Clayton, Gemma asked Craig if she could hold his hand, she was that scared.

Then back on the cobbles she suggested they go for a drink together after Clayton's guilty verdict.  But, as Gemma was quick to point out, it was just a drink, as friends, for Kylie.

But what a lovely thing it was to see and I wonder if, perhaps, any Corrie fans would like these two to get together?

What do you say to this new Corrie couple - Yay or Nay?

Isn't there a rumour that Gemma and Alex might get together? That I do think would be a step too far.

I'm thinking it's gonna be Gemma and Alex. I've been thinking it for a while now.

Isn't that a bit of an age gap? Isn't Gemma Kylie's age, and Craig just turned 18?

I know Alex is smitten with Gemma, but doesn't mean they'll get together.

Craig and Bethany are closer in age...

I think Gemma is a bit too rough around the edges for Craig who is only 18 and a nice, intelligent bloke - could you imagine what Beth would make of that? - ooh no, that wouldn't go over well at all. Same as Gemma & Alex, just mates, nothing more.

As if someone like Gemma would get romantically involved with either of them! She's the sort of chav who would laugh and jeer at both of them. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear and I would rather they wrote her out altogether.

I think the age gap, while it isn't huge in years, is large in life experience. Gemma and Alex are closer in age but again, Gemma's more of a mate, there, I think. If Jason had stuck around, that might have developed into something, even if short. I can see Gemma making eyes at Adam Barlow or perhaps Daniel Osborne when they reappear, though.

No, Craig is only 18!

Nay. Gemma and Chesney are a much more natural pairing. Maybe he could give her some much-needed stability and she could perk up his perennial dourness somewhat. Plus would love to see (or imagine) Gemma getting right up in prissy, prim princess Katie's face and bawling something out in that foghorn voice. What better revenge on your ex than that?!

One relationship that is clearly being set up and which I think could work quite well is Michelle and Robert. When he found her in the pub after the explosion, he was clearly smitten. And I think that their relationship would be interesting--the two already have good chemistry and they seem more right together than Michelle and Steve. Robert can jar her out of her smugness a little and help her rediscover that sense of adventure and fun that she had when she was still a singer and before she became Steve's much-enduring mother. Meanwhile, Michelle, capable, competent, loving, good organizer could bring alot to Robert and the restaurant. Steve's character, on the other hand, works better with more volatile women, like Becky and Karen, even Tracy, because then he actually has a calming effect. With Michelle, who's more balanced and stable than the other women, he appears a petulant child.

Anonymous at 17.05: that is a very insightful post. I would only add that Becky and Karen were played by outstanding actresses who lifted the relationship. With that in mind, I'll reserve judgement on Robert and Michelle. As for pairing Alex with anyone, I hope the writers take advice. His disability hasn't been addressed in the way, albeit differently, Izzy's has. Academic atm as Gemma wouldn't be interested in him.

No, I think they work well as friends, but nothing more.

A little while ago,it was asked if Bethany and Craig would be a good couple and now him and Gemma who as it was mentioned is much older and would be better off with Chesney.
I also agree that Alex and Gemma are better off as friends and I hope she isn't portrayed as the 'villian'for turning him down.

Erm, Katie left the show over a year ago to live in Portugal. Do you mean Sinead?

yes I wasn't sure about that one - at first I thought they meant Kate?? Katie is long gone and living happily in Portugal. I think Gemma, Alex & Craig should remain single. I mean does everyone have to be paired with everybody else??? However, the suggestion of Michelle & Robert, now that could be interesting. I could see Michelle with Robert rather than wishy-washy Steve. Wouldn't that put a few noses out of joint and set the tongues a wagging. Both Nick & Steve need to grow a spine - both are pretty useless in the take charge dept. NOT

Just reading the headline, I got shivers, and not in a good way! Ugh. No. Definitely no.

It's been obvious for quite a while that they are going to put Michelle and Robert together. Nothing new there! Although why she'd want to go with someone who'd already shagged their sister-in-law beats me.

No. Craig is a smart, sensitive and sensible boy. Gemma is just much too coarse, common and superficial. Let him focus on his studies, if he can't be a policeman, if he still has an interest in the law he could go to law school or become a teacher if he was more interested in the social improvement side of that work. I don't see Gemma as a good match for Chesney either, he's also a great young man.
Anonymous at 17:05, You're quite right about Steve, he always gets on my nerves now that he's with Michelle but I liked him a lot when he was with wilder women like Tracy and Becky.

I think that since LLoyd left Steve can't find his way in life - they were great together as mates, now Steve is just adrift in no mans's land and can't quite cope. He never was very manly now he is just wishy washy. Not very endearing.

Agree with Maricha that the Steve-Michelle pairing makes Steve so much more irritating. When he was trying to be the voice of reason to volatile firecrackers like Karen and Becky, he was hilarious and lovable. But with Michelle, who is one of the street's most loyal and loving friends and spouses, but also humorless verging on sour, he looks like a petulant child.
