Faye Windass Waves Goodbye To Weatherfield! Corrie Blog Interviews Ellie Leach

Yep, you've read that right! After 12 years, Faye Windass is leaving Coronation Street.

Miley's recent return with Jackson has thrown Faye into a myriad of emotional conflicts. She’s got doubts about her flakey relationship with Craig, wants to be a mother to her daughter, and is harbouring feelings for her baby daddy. Although originally reluctant, Faye has quickly fallen in love with her daughter and shared a kiss with Jackson. With Craig resorting to blackmail, Faye is pushed to the brink, and after reconciling with PC Tinker, she says a sad farewell to Weatherfield.

Being your intrepid Corrie blogger is always a treat, and no more so than when I join a Corrie online press day to chat with the cast!

A few weeks ago I shared screentime with Ellie Leach, who told us about her screen debut, Faye’s final storyline, and her favourite moment from 12 years in Weatherfield!

Hi Ellie! Faye's become torn between her daughter and her life on the cobbles. How hard has it been for Faye?

Yes, it's been tough. When Miley first returned, Faye was adamant she didn't want anything to do with her as she feared this was how things would turn out. I think she's struggling because she doesn't know how these two factors of her life could come together?! She must choose between one or the other. It's a whole lot of heartache that she wanted to avoid.

What are her feelings for Jackson?

I think she’s torn between this life that she's got with Craig and what her life could be like with Miley and Jackson. She's seen how much of a great dad he is. She's thinking about the life she could have with her family. She can't have any children with Craig, so she's torn. In her heart, she knows how she feels about Jackson, but in her head, she doesn't want to leave the street just for the sake of her child, and she worries about how it will all pan out.

Why did Faye accept Craig’s proposal?

It's hard for her because she has a lot of love for Craig, but I don't think she’s in love with Craig anymore. Obviously, the kiss happened with Jackson, just previously to the proposal, so she’s got a lot of emotions running around in her head. Her family were there for the proposal, as were Craig’s, and Glenda was singing away in the background - how could she say no?! It's whether she follows her head or her heart as Jackson has also offered to take her away with this ready-made family.

Craig desperately tries to hold on to Faye, and he starts mentioning the hit-and-run accident. He does kind of start to blackmail her. Does she see Craig in a different light?

Yeah, definitely. I think everyone knows that Craig is a fun-loving, kind character, and we've not seen him act like this before. As much as it drives her to stay because she’s scared of that getting out, it also drives her further away as she doesn't want to be in a relationship with a blackmailer nor does she want to go back to jail, so she’s stuck. He’s clutching at straws, as he’s also involved in this - she’s scared of everyone finding out.

In real-life you are good friends with Colson Smith, who plays Craig, how did it feel filming those scenes together?

Colson is my best mate, and we always have a laugh, whatever scenes we are filming. We've worked together for so many years now, and we know each other so well, it's good that we can do hard-hitting scenes and be perfect friends afterwards.

Faye decides to stay on the street, but Craig gives in and tells her that if she wants to go to Slough with Miley, she should do it. If he hadn't said that, do you think she would have still stayed?

The overriding feeling was that she wanted to be with her daughter. Craig held a massive secret against her. Would that have jeopardised her family? - I don't know. She doesn't want to watch her daughter leave but doesn't want the secret to come out.

After hearing Craig say those words, she decides to leave the street, and the policeman is heartbroken. Can you describe your final scene to us?

It was very emotional. It's Faye leaving the street after 12 years, but also me leaving after 12 years as well. The saddest part of the scene is when they are in the taxi, Faye sees Craig walking the street on his own. Faye stops the taxi and tells him she will always love him. It is sad because we see two people who love each other, but there are too many other factors to make it work.

Can you remember your first ever scene on the show?

Yes, it was on location. She was about to be fostered by Eddie and Anna who'd brought a cake to the foster home with them. I was little, so young, and had pigtails in. It's crazy to think that it was 12 years ago. Growing up on Coronation Street was the best experience -everyone made me feel welcome. When I first started, Brooke (Brooke Vincent - Sophie Webster) my cousin told me to be myself and be on time. Coronation Street will always be part of me, and Faye will always be part of me.

What was your favourite moment on the street?

I remember (filming a scene) when Faye realised that she may have been pregnant but didn't want to buy a test so she sent Craig into Dev’s shop. When we were filming, Colson knocked a loaf of bread off the shelf, and the whole frame fell over. We looked at each other, started laughing, and realised we couldn't carry on the scene. It was so funny!

Thank you, Ellie - all the best for the future!

Farewell then, Faye Windass! Craig is now single again, and Underworld has lost another staff member! Will you miss this long-standing character, or are you glad to see her leave with a happy ending? Let us know in the comments box.

Tune into Coronation Street next week to catch Faye's final scenes.

Coronation Street Episode Review;Wednesday 17th of August 8 pm

Faye’s mood remains low tonight following her night apart from Craig. She gets drilled by the factory girls, whilst Craig is sidestepped with the community engagement day and visiting Speed Daal to update Zee on Stu’s status. Zeedan is quick to report back to his Gran, and prompted by a chat with Roy, decides to pursue that prison visiting order. Whilst Yasmeen is busy with the fundraiser, Zee warns Stu to stay away but retorts by telling him he will fight to clear his name and the corrupt Detective Lennox: all so he can win back Yasmeen. Meanwhile, at the fundraiser, Yasmeen is hounded about her past and has a panic attack. Roy comes to her rescue, and dishes out more words of wisdom, whilst Yasmeen frantically fails to contact Zeedan, who is still in the prison. Zeedan later returns and visits Adam Barlow to get his legal take on things. He then lies to Yasmeen about his whereabouts, but of course, she bumps into Adam who ignoring client confidentiality, promptly spills the beans.

Later, Zee confesses and tells Yasmeen that he thinks Stu is telling the truth. Back at N0.6 Stu tries to make a jail call to Yasmeen and she puts down the phone. Stu is heartbroken.

Meanwhile, Underworld staff complete an order early, so Carla gives everyone a half-day off, and they organise a staff party. I loved this! it reminded me of the old Mike Baldwin days. In true Classic Corrie fashion, a factory party is soon in full flow with all staff (including Dirk!!) enjoying wine, snacks, and cans of beer. Feeling fragile, and after seeing Craig have fun with his colleague at work, Faye gets drunk and steers the party to the Rover's. We viewers then got a brilliant karaoke scene, in the cast-filled pub! (pre-covid days have returned) Faye then staggered to the beer garden and made a drunken play for Michael. He doesn't reciprocate and nobody sees them, so assuming that was a one-off. Faye certainly thought so, later returning to the flat, and forgiving Craig for being so caring and nice. She doesn't mention that Micheal mishap.

Aaron and Summer also seem like a toxic pairing. Tonight, the youngster kicked off at the garage, and Summer, hiding own her body issues ahead of the holiday, confronted him about his bruises. It turns out he’s getting physically abused by his drunken father. Summer promises to stand by him, which can only mean more sadness and issue-based misery, which makes Max's return all the more pleasing.

Coinciding with Audrey's mood-lifting pill-popping, the teen has been absent recently and tonight he suddenly reappeared, helping his great gran to restyle her salon! Audrey tells Stephen, Max, and Shona, that she wants to spend her cash on doing it up and living a little. Stephen’s smile through gritted teeth was clear to see, but wasn't it great to see Audrey smiling again? Corrie viewers were also treated to some more nostalgia, with that picture of Alf Roberts on the salon’s shelf. After catching up with Ken and Rita at Roy’s, Stephen was quick to question his mum about her funds, and she promised him honesty - just not enough to tell him about her suicide attempt. Audrey also got some nice flowers from Ken and Rita, which was great to see, but Stephen still failed to get Audrey’s signature on the trust fund.

Elsewhere tonight, I loved Audrey's story about meeting Viv Nicholson at Sheffield’s Cavendish Club in the 60s. Somebody did their research.

Some superb writing and a very enjoyable hour of Corrie!

Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 6 November 2020

Welcome to a replay of Friday night on t'Street.  I have to be honest for much of the programme my attention was elsewhere as Southampton were thrashing Newcastle and going top of the Premier League for the first time ever.  If like Sean and Dylan I had been allowed in the ground to watch the match I would have watched these episodes later.  Some of the following may be a little sketchy.

Our main story this evening is Oliver (above in case you cannot remember), Leanne, Nick, Gail and Simon who has finally been found again.  Wendy the guardian has recorded all the verbal evidence she has been gathering on one of those little recording machines (which is odd as I thought everyone used their phone these days).  After talking to Simon she accidentally leaves it behind having taken a call about her next meeting.  Simon takes it back to Leanne and they listen to edited highlights, in particular when Gail decided to tell Wendy that Nick had been talking nonsense and the truth was that Leanne could not see what was best for Oliver (above Leanne is playing it and Gail's voice is saying the words shown).  Needless to say I then thought we were watching 'Enders as Leanne lashed out at just about everyone in hearing distance.  Gail and Simon replaced the recorder before Wendy knew it was missing and Gail made out that they had not listened to the contents and that Wendy would not want anyone knowing how forgetful she was.  {By contrast when I was in hospital recently and had to carry my own notes between departments they were sealed before being handed to me and again before the return from the scan - which I thought was overkill - I wonder what they had written about me?}.

Meanwhile Debbie and Ray are getting on with their plans to build a huge hotel (does Weatherfield really need a hotel? - oh yes for fornicating couples who are not married).  Sally puts the house on the market for £145k and within about 5 minutes Ray has made an anonymous offer of the full asking price.  Sally is not accepting - after all someone else might want it and be prepared to pay more once it has been properly marketed.  Debbie tells Ray off for his stupidity and also turns down his offer of sharing a non-marital bed in one of his hotels (although apparently they used to indulge in such activities - and to which I think she might be making some reference above).

Dev acknowledges to the twins that he has got it all wrong and points out that being a single father is proving a challenge he things he is losing and asks Aadi and Asha what they think would be good for them.  Both agree that returning to Weatherfield High instead of Oakhill would solve Dev's money problems and they would not feel out of place.  Dev "reluctantly" agrees and then suggests inviting Corey to tea.  Turns out that Corey knows a lot about golf - being caddy for his father and he even knows who Seve Ballesteros was.  Conversely Asha is not impressed but Dev suddenly believes he has a second son!  And Corey is no longer the Mr Nice Guy not pressing Asha to take it to the next level - if she has made the adult decision to take the pill she must also have made the decision to sleep with him and pressure is applied (when "Big D" - a golf club nickname for Dev) is out of earshot (above).

In yet another unneeded raised voice session Michael Bailey visits Grace Vickers in prison to talk about the baby.  Clearly the bright young man (well he keeps having all those money making ideas) is struggling with the concept that Grace is actually telling the truth this time and to be honest who can blame him.  James makes it clear that Michael should avoid Grace in the same way as avoiding the virus and wash that girl right out of his hair, or use sanitiser, not sure which.  Michael may not been keen on Grace - but a baby is a different matter.  Quite possibly she will receive a lesser sentence when the pregnancy is used in mitigation.

Talking of court cases we do not see it but somehow Emma was in court this morning and was only fined - that must be a record between arrest and conviction!  Sean and Dylan are getting along a little better and the former is upset when Violet and her best beloved contact Dylan to tell him of a trip to Scotland and a five star hotel.  Eileen and Todd talk Sean down off the competitive ceiling and as a consequence Sean has realised that knicker stitching and part time barmaid have to be replaced and he needs to improve his life.

Craig also lets on to Sally and Tim that Geoff is telling a different story to the one Debbie told - Geoff insists Debbie wound him up (Geoff tells the truth) which Debbie of course denies (lying her head off). Faye was dumped by her two timing boyfriend on Wednesday and by the time this evening was finished she has made it clear to Craig (who gave Geoff Metcalfe a piece of his mind in front of Faye earlier) that they are now going out (above) and whilst the former great lump struggled to get his brain around the concept he realises that she is serious and that a man in uniform is attractive!

Written by Chris Fewtrell and directed by Ian Barber.

Not sure which of those two should take the blame.  I really don't think the prison scene should have needed raised voices and Leanne dumping Nick again and slamming doors - in a hospital - is just not on.  I personally feel that the Oliver story has been extended for too long - but then it does have a huge personal resonance and consequently I am biased.  Take care out there!

Corrie Comicals week ending 5 June 2020

A camera hidden in plain view next to the Wharfedale system.  On a shelf which Yasmeen meticulously cleaned daily (if not more frequently) and which we all considered was going to be Geoff's undoing.  And how blind are the Socco's?  Surely one of them might have spotted it and asked for the recordings.  However to get rid of this rather annoying plot point Geoff regained access to the house and was able to delete the recordings of the week leading up to the attack.  But it has been there for months - why not delete ALL of the recordings?  They can only assist the defence team if they ever become available.  And the camera has gone to the tip.

I am not entirely sure when this episode was due to be transmitted - probably about three weeks ago.  However I think I can guarantee that whenever Craig becomes a policeman it will not be 22nd of June on any calendar in this house.  Indeed I wonder if it will ever be mentioned again as the episode planned for that date had not been made at shutdown and I believe we will be past that date when the new episodes arrive.

Come Wednesday a new day dawned and as the writer also wrote Friday I suspect that this was originally a one-hour long Friday episode.  John Byrom (29 February 1692 – 26 September 1763) - poor man had no birthday in 1700 as there was no leap year, a poet, inventor of a type of shorthand, landowner and apparently also created the terms "Tweedledee and Tweedledum".  Although I have been told that you cannot believe everything you read on t'internet.  Throughout this episode various people asked after Byron assuming it had been mispronounced!

Imran had sent a text that the cleaners were coming at midday to Adam who wonders why he did not say 12; Imran was concerned that Adam might interpret that as the middle of the night - but Adam says he is not aware that cleaners regularly work in the middle of the night.  But why would want noisy cleaners in an office at midday - there might be clients, there might be phones calls?  Surely before 9 or after 6 to ensure they comply with the physical distancing needed these days?

Teenage life is so unfair, you start a fight so you get your schooling upgraded at vast cost and have to do shifts in the kebab shop because your sister cannot keep her clothes on and to enable Dev to stay solvent.  Yep put like that it really does seem so completely unfair.

On Wednesday Beth and Kirk fell to discussing socks.  Like all of us the mystery sock black hole has turned up in Weatherfield and poor Kirk has been losing socks.  At one point he had it all sorted.  He had socks with the days of the week and he could wear the right socks for the right day so he knew which day of the week it was (and recently we have all struggled with that concept and he is not in lockdown!).  Anyway he ended up wearing one Tuesday sock and one Saturday sock and he did not know which day of the week it was.  He found out he was wearing odd socks on the way to the Weathy County ground, so it must have been a Saturday.  Paul thought about this for a moment and then said that perhaps it was an evening game and therefore might have been a Tuesday; which really left Kirk confused.  Anyway Beth suggested buying all black or all blue socks so they all match up.  Kirk ignored the instructions and bought some blue and some black.  It just won't work will it?

Which just about wraps up the lighter side of the Street for this week.
