Listen: Classical version of the Coronation Street theme tune

With thanks to Classic FM for this wonderful snippet.

Gabriela Montero is known for being a stupendous pianist, but she’s also a truly gifted improviser.

One of her party-pieces is to take a theme suggested by the audience or the orchestra and turn it into a majestic piano piece.

So, at Classic FM Live in Cardiff on Tuesday night, the orchestra had a truly inspired suggestion for her…

Meh, it didn't do that much for me. She clearly didn't know the theme, so she couldn't improvise on the emotion connected with it. She captured a few notes, registered the key, then did her own schtick with it. Okay, but not memorable.
