ITV today has announced that two more Connors are to come to Weatherfield in September. Next month sees Michelle's cousin, Aidan played by Shane Ward, arrive to help bail out the factory. In due course, Aidan's father, Johnny, and his sister, Kate, will arrive, too.
Johnny Connor is to be played by Richard Hawley, lately of Prime Suspect fame where he played DI Richard Haskons. Kate Connor is played by Faye Brooks who has recently starred in a stage production of Legally Blonde. Johnny will be a "man about town", a self made man in his own right, ITV describes him as "Funny, charming, ruthless in business, Johnny is the sort of guy you'd be proud to call a friend". Sounds like a dynamic personality! "Kate is a tough cookie and more than a match for her father and brother" according to the press release and she's engaged to a woman in the military called Tess.
They could be a breath of fresh air if things work out well. Obviously, at some point, there will be interaction with the locals and my first thought was that Johnny might be a good match for Anna. He sounds a bit like Owen but without the "bully" edge that Owen often had. Logically, it follows that Sophie may end up getting a crush on Kate though whether it will be reciprocated and we have a new love triangle is yet to be seen. Aidan has any number of single women that might be lining up for his attentions.
I shall look forward to meeting them!

More new people! Please can they get rid of Bethany, Sarah & Callum.....PLEASE!!!
Johnny sounds a bit like a modern Mike Baldwin!
They could make room for them by sending Beth and Sarah back to Italy and sending Callum with them. Wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit!
Well it's the kiss of death for Kate as anyone who gets teamed with Sophie wont last long.
And whose house will they squash into?
I can't believe they are bringing in new people when there are SO many cast members now who we don't see enough of....like Kirk and Beth and Craig. How about a good story line for them? Fiz is just back...Eva is coming back. More new people is silly and really bloating the cast roster. I also, sincerely hope they write the exit for ridiculous Callum and his harem of irritating women. The street is way better without them. Jeez, these producers never get it right lately.
And....another lesbian on the street. Ugh....cue her demise if they hook her up with Sophie, who has nothing to offer anyone except a snarky attitude and a room with her Mom or Dad.
No...No more characters. Please. There's already so many. And another lesbian, I see. She'll be paired with Sophie, it's so predictable, and then there'll be this lesbian love triangle again. And then she'll be dumped/die in the next two or three years. Again. Just stop bringing in lesbians all the time. Unless she WON'T get with Sophie. But I doubt it. The only one I liked with Sophie was Sian, and I don't think anyone will be able to replace her.
I agree we don't need anymore characters. Create new storylines for some of the under used cast members. For example, Izzy, Jason, Luke, Fizz, Tyronne, Beth, Kirk and Craig.
This bores me. Funny? I bet he's as funny as a dead pigeon as the writers don't seem to do funny well any more. Eddie Yeats was funny, Fred Elliott was funny. A funny Connor? I doubt it!- Micky
This sounds good, get rid of Sarah and Callum and send Bethany packing too. A few new Connor's will lighten up the Street.
YOu're right, some of you, it's very predictable with the possible pairing of Sophie and Kate. What I'd like to see is Kate being a mentor to Sophie to encourage her back to school to do something with her life. That would work.
Less people and more focus on proper use of the reduced cast. Or, bring back a great character like Anna's husband!
At the risk of sounding cynical,Sarah and Bathany would be 'protected' from the axe since they are members of the Platt family and sadly it will be the likes of Kirk,Beth and Craig who'll get the axe with the tired'lack of storyline' excuse as the writers seem tohave storylines for the same circle of characters over and over and over again.
Anon 21:08 your cat is gorgeous! What is his/her name if you don't mind me asking. I completely agree with your comments!
Do we have to have Sophie crush on every single lesbian that comes into the street? Find her another story or send her off to uni.
It's really quite astonishing how many lesbians have moved to the street since Sophie came out.
On a brighter note, I'm looking forward to seeing Richard Hawley on screen again. I loved DI Haskons.
Wow, what a realistic storyline. Carla, who had no family to speak of whatsoever, all of a sudden has a whole clan running to her aid. Bah..
They aren't Carla's family, they're Michelle's cousins/uncle though I suppose by marriage they used to be Carla's.
It's not new characters we need, it's new writers!
I've never been able to work out the dynamics of the Connor Family Tree. Why did Paul, Liam & Michelle all have Mancunian accents, yet very Irish parents who still live in Ireland? Why was Michelle supposedly married to her beloved Darren and yet retained her maiden name (years before it became fairly fashionable to do so.) And is this new Johnny Connor Michelle's dad's brother? If so, how did he too escape the Irish accent? (I'm assuming the British Richard Hawley won't be assuming one).
Lets not forget we already had cousin Tom who had a crush on Maria? Where is he nowadays?- Micky
Cobblestone, re accents: it's not that hard. The Connors moved to Manchester when they were young, raised their family, then moved back to Ireland.
Similar thing in my husband's family - they moved from the UK to Australia in the 80s, husband grew up here, lost his British accent, gained an Australian one. In his mid-20s they all moved back but he decided to stay. People get really confused when I say he's been here since he was a kid but my in-laws are all in the UK! You can see their minds ticking over ("but, he couldn't have cone here alone, surely")!
As for how they explain Barry's brother having an English accent - all I can think of is they are half brothers who didn't grow up together. Perhaps a storyline about unmarried Irish catholics giving up their babies for adoption. But they have the same surname so buggered if I know!
Oh and Michelle could have reverted back to her maiden name after divorcing.
Yes but Ryan, Dean and Michelle's son (well he would've been had he not been switched at birth, but I digress...), he was also a Conner. The only way I've ever been able to work that one out is to assume that Dean quite coincidentally had the same surname. Or maybe he was a distant cousin too ??
