Who will be the next Coronation Street producer?

Coronation Street producers, on average, last a couple of years.  If that trend is still current, then it's just about time for a change at the top.

There's a list on Wikipedia of all of the Coronation Street producers and their length of tenure in the post. There's also a good write-up of Stuart Blackburn's time at the top on Corriepedia too.

Stuart Blackburn took on the role of producer of our favourite soap in April 2013. He's had more than two years in the hot seat now and I wonder if Corrie are casting the net yet for someone new?

When it was announced in October 2012 that Mr Blackburn was taking over at Coronation Street after his stint on Emmerdale, I posted a question over at Digital Spy. I asked Emmerdale fans what we could expect.  Their replies make interesting reading.

Who would you - yes, you reading this - like to see take over as Coronation Street Producer? Is there anyone who's already been in the role that you would welcome back?  Whose name would make your heart sing if you saw it in a news report as the new Corrie producer?

Emmerdale's producer? Or possibly Kieran Roberts

I think Damon Rochefort would make an excellent showrunner. I love his scripts. He has a strong appreciation of the history of the show and its importance to viewers.

I can't name anyone specifically, but I think it's time we had a woman in charge again. Perhaps then we might see women being portrayed as stronger and more independent. I'm getting a bit uncomfortable with the way characters such as Leanne and Carla are being turned into perpetual victims.

How about Tony Warren? He wrote CORRIE in the first place back in 1960, if it wasn't for Tony there wouldn't be a Coronation Street, there's no one else in the world more perfect for the job 😃

Just want a producer who genuinely cares about the history, proper characterisation, understands the fine balance of drama and comedy, shares solid storylines across the whole cast, and has the guts to axe Todd, Sarah, Bethany, Callum - and give Carla and Leanne a more positive run for a while.

Thankless job. A really tough street to make a living on. Keep a bottle of scotch in the desk and fire half the cast that has too many story lines.

Yes! less misery for Leanne and Carla, I know they do that as they are Corrie's best actresses but enough's enough. No wonder Ali King is taking a break and Jane Danson doesn't want to be involved in the live episode.

Yes Daran Little is a great suggestion.

Daran Little, of course - let the campaign begin!!

I like the idea of one of the stronger writers being in charge- Chris Fewtrell (I think is the correct spelling) or Damon Rochefort; both always seem to build comedy naturally into the script, as does Simon Crowther.

Somebody needs to explain exactly what a producer does.

@Anonymous 13:39. That would be very helpful!

I wonder if Russell T. Davies would be interested, given he was once a storyliner on Corrie? Either Davies or Daran Little would be my fantasy choices. If we choose from the current pool of writers, then either Chris Fewtrell, Simon Crowther or Jan McVerry would be my top picks. But very few past producers have been writers so I doubt it will happen.
