Very sad news reaches us today.
Roy Hudd, who played Coronation Street's Archie Shuttleworth, has died age 83.
Roy was so much more than Corrie's Archie Shuttleworth, however. He was a TV legend and it's a sad day indeed to hear that he's passed away.
In Coronation Street, Roy first appeared as undertaker Archie "Five foot nine, if I'm not mistaken!" Shuttleworth in 2002 and appeared intermittently until the character was killed off in 2018.
Roy Hudd will be sadly missed by all those who remember his sterling work on television through the decades.
There's a wonderful radio interview with Roy Hudd which is still obnline where he talks about being Coronation Street's Archie Shuttleworth. Roy was interviewed on BBC Radio 4 by Sandi Toksvig. The Corrie snippet is only just over two minutes long and is definitely worth listening to.
Roy talks about Archie's catchphrase and how the character was created by writer Daran Little. He also reveals what happened when Archie had to bury Fred Elliot the butcher, I say the butcher.
Have a little listen to it here.
