Gemma’s mum, the awful Bernie, returns this week after Gemma’s heartfelt phone call to her mum thaws whatever passes inside Bernie’s chest for a heart. And to be fair, Gemma is struggling so much – with the quads, with Chesney, with her fake friends at baby yoga, with Joseph demanding attention – that having Bernie around does take some of the pressure off poor Gemma. But still I can’t warm to Bernie, not in the slightest I’m afraid. Poor Gemma’s so exhausted that she almost pushes the quads into the path of an oncoming car after her posh mates ply her with prosecco in Speed Daal. Speaking of which, just how did Gemma get the quads and the pushchair into Speed Daal?

Speaking of Speed Daal, Alya’s on to Geoff and ‘Voggles’ him online to find some disturbing information about his past. Turns out he was involved in a fracas with a woman called Jocelyn in a pub. Charges were dropped, but it was enough of a news story to make the regional paper. Alya, not the brightest button in the box, it’s fair to say, starts putting two and two together about Geoff but when she confronts Yasmeen with everything she knows, Yasmeen defends Geoff to the hilt. However, if Yasmeen knew that Geoff has now started visiting escort girls, she just might change her mind.

Over at Stillwaters retirement community, Ken is encouraged to give an author talk. An annoying little man in the audience quizzes Ken on the number of books he’s actually written. That man is Norris Cole! Yes, Norris and Freda are imprisoned in Stillwaters too, or at least that’s how Norris sees it. He hates it there and is only there at Freda’s whim. Norris warns Ken about a fella called Charles who rules the roost at Stillwaters. Norris seems slightly afraid of Charles while Ken wonders what’s really going on. Meanwhile Claudia swans around in expensive slacks, loving every minute of her new life. Ken? He’s not so sure.

Elsewhere this week, Evelyn bumps into an old flame called Arthur. It’s clear they had serious history between them and she shows her softer side by agreeing to go on a date with him. She waits for him in the Rovers, even reserves a booth! Plus, she has her hair and make-up done by Claudia, which was such a wonderful scene. Maureen Lipman as Evelyn and Rula Lenska as Claudia are Corrie gold together. Anyway, as you might have guessed by now, Arthur doesn’t turn up in the Rovers and Evelyn heads home alone.

And that’s just about that for this week.
