Corrie producer Iain MacLeod reveals more for Yasmeen & Geoff

Wondering what could be coming up in the Geoff and Yasmeen storyline in Coronation Street?

Well, teasing the next steps of creepy Geoff’s coercion plan, Corrie producer Iain MacLeod told RadioTimes.com:

“This pattern of behaviour continues until victim shave been psychologically imprisoned by the very person who professes to love them. The imprisonment is sometimes more literal, with the abuser controlling their partner’s access to money, when they leave the house and who they see – even what and when they eat.

“We will be exploring all these aspects of this complex issue in upcoming episodes, as Geoff’s stranglehold on Yasmeen tightens.”

“I hope the storyline will give those who are in an abusive relationship the courage and insight to get out before it’s too late.”

Looks like it's a long way from being over, just yet.

"Looks like it's a long way from being over, just yet."

What!? This has to be one of the longest, drawn-out story lines ever and am so tired of watching.

Oh good Lord! Make this one end!
Killing her chicken and making her eat it is the last straw!
So disgusted with this storyline.

Yes, it's gone on long enough. We've got the message, no need to milk it. It is just too horrible to watch, and in spite of McLeod's claims I really don't believe a woman like Yazmeen would put up with such manipulation all this time, not to mention letting him control her finances. Wasn't she left in dire straits by Sharif because he spent all their money on his mistress? Once bitten, twice shy...

I think 'issue' storylines are important and do help people who need it. But I suspect that some of the writers, despite working with various volunteer groups that address these issues, have too little experience of life to string out the storylines in ways that keep our interest, and create more than a minimum of realism.

Viewers lose interest when this happens. What could be an opportunity to be an effective medium to communicate the truth about abuse and oppression is often watered down and altered, and we are more annoyed than informed.

Of course this could all be explained by the fact that the older I get, the less patience I have with writers' learning curves.

This issue has already been covered in the story about Shelley and Charlie. I hope the Geoff/Yasmeen story ends as well as the Shelley/Charlie story did.
