Heartbreaking pics from Corrie's old Granada site

I know that the old Coronation Street set is pretty much all gone now, demolished. I know that we've seen pictures of its destruction before. But more pictures have surfaced which show the site as I've never seen it before.

I think what's upset me more than anything about this new set of pictures to hit the internet is how much Coronation Street memorabilia and history was left lying around, all to be bulldozed away.

Scripts are left lying on the floor. Weatherfield Gazette headlines are scattered about. An x-ray scan of an unborn baby lies covered in rubble. Props have been left for the builders to dump in a skip.

It's heartbreaking and it's all here.

With credit to @ShaunInBrum on Twitter for letting me know about this.

Wow. First--this is a sad commentary on our throw away society. You can't tell me that some of this stuff couldn't have been repurposed. But the other thing--how many of these things could have been turned into fund raisers for a Manchester based organization? I was stunned to see the iconic photo still hanging on a wall. Thank heavens someone thought to get the tiles off the old Rovers exterior and turned them into an art project/fund raiser. Sad to think the rest will be thrown in a skip.

I'm with Flo on the fundraiser idea. Many of those bits'n bobs could have been auctioned off for charity.

It is indeed sad. I thought the plan was to build on the site. They could have kept it as a tourist attraction, even if it was the outside areas only.

I suppose the land now belongs to someone who might develop one day, but for now don't care about whatever got left behind.
