Paddy was last seen in Corrie back in August of last year when Corrie went camping. Dougie is the dad of Craig's girlfriend Caitlin, who remains in the show, so it would make sense for him to return to the cobbles, storyline-wise.
However, it seems that Paddy was back on the set not to reprise his role as Dougie, but for a bit of filming for the British Soap Awards.

A storyline involving Pastor Billy is to start soon which has to do with his past. A familiar face is to show up. Could it be Dougie who returns?
Please no! This guy is not a very good actor. He has been bailed out in the past by excellent script writing from Peter Kay and Dave Spikey. He is very one dimensional. The only saving grace from his last appearance was the lovely romance between Craig and Caitlin
