Shobna's enjoying Sunita's new storyline
There's a chatty interview today in the Scottish Daily Record with Shobna Gulati who plays Our Sunita. I've always liked Shobna and have met her on one occasion. She's sparky and fun and sincere. It's also nice to see Sunita glammed up behind the bar because she's been dowdy for too long!
In the interview she talks about her character's affair with Karl, calling it a "huge change in direction for stable, reliable Sunita". She puts the blame squarely on Dev who has underappreciated her for years. She sees Sunita as looking for something for herself now that her children are no longer babies and her husband/partner is undermining her and taking her new job as a joke. Sunita is blooming under the attentions of a new man.
She also talks about struggling with self esteem and body image and how important it is for women and young girls to have a more realistic example to look up to. She's not comfortable with fame and got into acting for herself, for the work and the performance moreso than being famous for it.
It's a good interview and gives you a bit more of the woman behind the character.

Well she does not look like she is enjoying it, just looks glassy eyed and emotionless. Irrespective of how hard done by she feels by Dev doesnt she think of her two young children? Plus Stella is supposed to be her employer and friend. Just a stupid selfish cow.
Meow....Don't hold back now!!
It's a shame that tptb always think a new direction means a new love affair. It would have been great if Sunita had decided to do a maths degree or set up her own business. She'd have scared the life out of Dev. It would have been more in keeping with her personality than this transplant she's undergone.
That's a really constructive observation Humpty...quite refreshing on here, and I think you're spot on!
I agree Humpty - something other than a love affair should have been the solution, here. Now, Sunita just seems pathetic and childish.
I like the actress too and it's just terrible IMO that the writers are taking her down this sleazy road.I am not buying into the 'hot pants' Sunita scenario. She was always a caring kind person and now at the drop of a hat she's going to boink Karl because Dev is being his usual self?More lead in is required if the writers are going to do a complete 180 with the characters...it's getting monotonous.
I agree Humpty. I find myself totally disgusted with this storyline. It is SO out of character for her, and incredibly naive, the way she lent him money and then has an affair. And her acting in the scenes are not good. I really hate this storyline and just want it to end. Going to college would have made much more sense!
