Antony Cotton on Corrie's first gay wedding?

Antony Cotton, who plays Coronation Street's Sean Tully, is quoted in The People about the tabloid- rumoured first gay wedding in Corrie if Sean weds Marcus in a civil partnership this spring.

The People quote Antony  as saying how thrilled he is with this storyline, etc.

However, news just in from Antony Cotton via twitter: "Just so you know I haven't spoken to anyone at The People. I'll be having words..." and "All Charlie and I know is he returns in March and we're both thrilled and looking forward to seeing what the future holds for Sean & Marcus"
Anyway, I know nothing's been confirmed on this story yet but I do hope it's true.

Me too! I like Marcus and i thought they made such a good couple, really well suited to each other. Marcus was the grounding that Sean needed, the "voice of reason" if you will ;)

I like Marcus too and am glad he is coming back. This civil ceremony story is also believable not like the other silly little teenage girlfriends story which have never been quite believable for me.

As you've probably seen, Antony says he did not talk to The People. He's also previously tweeted that the gay wedding / civil partnership story "announced" by another tabloid was incorrect, explaining that the exact storyline has not been developed yet.

Thanks Ian, no I hadn't seen that. Does that mean the story in The People is using made-up quotes?

Looked to me like poss quotes from a past interview where Antony was talking about Sean in general - then amended to fit the bill for this "story".

As Antony tweeted on Dec 28 after the original Sun claim"

"FYI : The story doing the rounds today - yes Sean rekindles his relationship with Marcus. But what the future holds has yet to be decided..."

Ah, thanks Ian. I do hope the civil partnership story does come true though, can't think of a better couple - gay or straight - to get wed on the Street.

Would be great for the Street. Sean deserves a life as much as anyone else.

If it does come to pass, I wonder why in some place it's called a civil partnership and in others a marriage. Big difference to many people. Like the California back and forth fight to keep gay marriage. Looking forward to Marcus - great character and perfect for Sean.

Wow, Sean might actually have a story-line rather than hanging round like a walking cliche.

In real life, someone like Charlie wouldn't give someone like Sean a second look. Totally unbelievable pairing.
