The wonderful Betty Driver, who plays Coronation Street's Betty Williams, was on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs this morning, Sunday 23 January. It was wonderful. Betty gave a very candid interview about her private life and I urge you to listen to it if you've missed it.

Aw, I wish I'd noticed she was on... I enjoy DID but it's one of those programmes where I keep forgetting it's on so I only tend it to catch it sporadically. So thanks for the heads-up, will definitely have a listen.
Ooh i'm having a listen now. It's wonderful!
Missed it this morning, but will definitely listen online. Love Betty.
The Daily Mail ran an article on Ms. Driver's interview. My heart broke when I read the details of her upbringing. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1349735/Coronation-Street-star-Betty-Driver-reveals-heartbreak-loveless-childhood-Desert-Island-Discs.html
It was a lovely programme. Miss Betty was lovely to listen to, but such a dreadful childhood. Contrary to what she thinks of herself, she has a lovely singing voice!!

She has spoken about her unhappy childhood many times before and detailed it in her 2000 autobiography, written with Daran Little.
So nice to read so many supportive comments about Betty in the Daily Mail's reader comments section. A "National Treasure" indeed.
Must get hold of the autobiography, thanks for that.
