Could Ena's song have inspired Tony Warren?

Did Vi Carson inspire Tony
Warren with an old folk song?
Picture: ITV
I have a recording of Tony Warren's This Is Your Life tribute show.  Vi Carson, the actress who so memorably played Ena Sharples, sings a few lines of a song which she says she sang to Tony when they worked together during his childhood.  The implication is that this song may have contributed to the mix of ideas which inspired Tony's creation of Coronation Street.
I've just been reading Sean Egan's 'Very Unofficial History of Coronation Street' book and he floats the idea that this song may have indeed played a role in TV history.  The song is called Bolton's Yard and it started life as a poem.  If you'd like to read it, it's printed on my blog (and it's been translated from the local dialect in which it was originally penned), at the link below.
