First Dennis Tanner. Who next?

Well, I have to admit to being one of many Corrie fans who is looking forward to the re-appearance of Elsie's lad on t'cobbles later this year. Whether he is now a dodgy pensioner or a pillar of society remains to be seen. Is Dennis likely to annoy the likes of Norris Cole? Will he resume his sneering jealousy of Ken? Will Gail marry him?

Anyway, this got me thinking about which former character I'd like to catch up with. It has to be the delectable Suzie Birchall. Back in the day she was feisty, often hasty but definitely fun. Well, until she came back in 1983 and tried to wreck Gail's marriage. Elsie kicked her out of number 11 and that was that. Or was it? Where did she go and what did she do? Has life turned out to be a success for Suzie?

Whose story would you like to catch up with? Maybe not one of the 'big names' such as Hilda or Bet. Perhaps you have a burning desire to find out what happened to Ida Clough or Sheila Crossley. Over to you . . .

Suzie Birchall would be very good. I'd also like to see the return of Trisha Armstrong, with her junior Duckworth in tow (though without Jack and Vera, it wouldn't have the same impact). Anything to save the actress from those Sainsbury's adverts!

So long as it's done sparingly - I'd hate it to become like EastEnders, where they depend on bringing back old characters to generate a short time headline, rather than creating new characters.

Agreed. I would love to see Suzie Birchall back.

I hope they build a new Tanner family around Dennis

I'd love to see Toyah come back for a visit. and I always enjoyed Curly Watts.

Billy Walker would be good - history with Deirdre and Ken (could steal Deirdre off Ken!), plus the likes of Rita, Emily, Betty and Gail would remember him. Nice to have the Walker name in the credits for one last time.

Not really into bringing these characters from ages ago back. To me its a sign that the Storywriters are running out of ideas.

Did Gail 'know' Dennis when she was living at Elsie's ?

I totally disagree with annonymous who is against bringing back the old characters, it is in no way shape or form a sign that the writers are running out of ideas, it is rather an important bit on continuity with the Street's history which is slowly but surely becoming just a misty memory. Bring back as many of the old characters as will come back!
HILDA!

Karen McDonalds! Especially with Tracey's return. I would love to see fights between Karen, Tracy and Becky!

Wendy Crozier! lol

I would love to see Suzie back but I think the actress suffers with some kind of illness now. I would like Karen McDonald back, Eddie Yates also. Tricia Armstrong is now in the Sainsbury's ads and she hasnt aged a bit.

I doubt Ida Clough will be coming back as I read that the actress had died recently. I to would love to see Suzie Birchall back, but as the poster above says I believe she is not in good health. Another character that might be worth a comeback is Kevin's sister, Debbie. The last time I saw the actress that played her was in "Dinnerladies".

No thanks to Wendy Crozier (dull) or Tricia Armstrong (quasi-EE character). Yes to Karen McDonald and Eddie Yeats.

I would like to see Dennis Tanner's nephew ( Elsie's grandson) come back, Paul Cheveski, he was the first baby to be born on Coronation Street, he would be about 49 or 50 now. He didn't really feature in the show as a baby, so that would be good. Wouldn't want to see his younger brother, Martin though, who remember's him when he came to live with Elsie in 1980 ??

I have just read that Helene Palmer who played Ida Clough, passed away a couple of weeks ago, it would be nice if someone on this blog puts up a tribute article to Helene and the character of Ida Clough, she certainly made a mark on the cobbles and was a well loved and remembered character.

That would be good anonymous. I remember when Ida was the shop steward in Mike Baldwins factory and reported him to the authorities for drunk driving!

I believe Geoffrey Hughes is in poor health nowadays and is more or less retired to the Isle of Wight, so it's unlikely we'd see Eddie Yeats back. What about his wife, Marion though?

It's surprising when you think about it that Debbie Webster hasn't been seen since 1985, given how prominent the Websters have been, and Bill returning lots of times. Maybe the actress isn't interested?

How about the Malletts?

and Yes to Karen McDonald, she was the best wife that Steve has had.

I think that given Julie Goodyear's desire to return for a one-off storyline every few years, she's been woefully underused. We haven't seen Bet Lynch since 2003! I would love it if her and Billy Walker came back together married and hatched a plan to get the Rovers back! Billy and Bet Walker, and possibly even with a child from Billy's past marriage called Anne! That would be awesome.
