Greetings and welcome to another week of words from Weatherfield. This week the update only covers Monday and Wednesday episodes as Corrie isn’t on this Friday night due to football. As a heads-up, it’s not on next Monday night either for the same reason. And so, without any further ado, here we go with this week’s Coronation Street update.
Debbie Webster left this week after a short visit to Weatherfield – and what a breath of fresh air she was. She told Kevin their Aunty Vi had died, leaving her £200k in her will which Debbie gave to Kevin, after some persuading. Well, Kev’s a simple man. A pint, a pie, a night in with the telly, that’s all he needs. What he’ll do with his share of the cash remains to be seen. He goes on a date with an old flame who tempts him with a look at her taboo tattoos but Kev’s not interested. He does, however, let slip that he’s a man of means and money and his date is interested in seeing Kev again. Yes, I bet she is.
Kev gives a share of the cash to Sophie who tells Paula she wants to use the money to travel abroad. Paula pretends she’s going with Sophie but tells Sophie to buy her own ticket. And then as Sophie packs her bags, Paula tells her she’s not going with her after all. She’s setting Sophie free to see the world and Sophie leaves in a taxi for the airport as the actress who plays her goes on maternity leave.
Elsewhere this week, Ali falls asleep looking after little Liam in Maria’s flat. There’s a pizza in the oven which catches on fire and smoke fills the flat. It’s action-man Gary – furniture emporium man and all-round pizza flame hero – who gets into Maria’s flat to save Liam and the pizza. The same can’t be said for Ali who is losing his mind to an addiction to prescription drugs.
Michelle and Robert flickered across my screen this week too, something about Ray and Vicky and a holiday in Majorca.
Meanwhile, it’s Ken’s 80th birthday and Norris turns up for the party in the Rovers. He brings Emily with him, via Skype on the laptop, and makes cutting remarks aimed at Mary. Emily didn’t have much to say but it was nice to see her again. However, as the Barlow boy celebrates his 80th birthday, there’s bad news from Sinead.
She’s been told by the consultant at the hospital that she’s only got a short number of weeks to live. As Ken breaks down in the smoking shelter with Liz at the back of the Rovers, he delivers a soliloquy the likes of which Corrie like to do. Music played around Ken’s words. It’s the sort of thing that if you like it, you’ll love it, and if you don’t, you won’t.
And finally this week, Dev does his best his week to understand daughter Asha and the angst she’s going through with her self-image problems. It’s heartbreaking stuff and well played by all.
And that’s just about that for this week.

After the way he dumped Anna after spending her compensation money from David on himself and the garage,I hope Kevin's date robs him of his inheritance !
Claudia is so annoying. Always sticking her two penn’orth in when it’s not needed. I thought it was so rude of her to cut Emily off when she was talking to Ken on Skype.
Ken is starting to look his age now.
Did Kevin share the money equally? If so, £50,000 will cover quite a holiday for Sophie!
Agree that Ken / Bill Roache is looking a bit haggard, thin in the face and hair not as kempt as usual. Hope it's for Ken's current worries and doesn't mean that Bill is in poor health.
I second that opinion. If Anna doesn't get her money back I hope Kev loses every dime of it and his stupid garage too.
