We are back on the cobbles, hurrah! It may have been on hiatus for a week, and I honestly struggled to remember what happened, but Sinead's 'bucket list' (and that 'distressing' ITV announcer message) brings me back down to earth. A family picnic has been arranged for Sinead in Victoria Gardens, as her time is cruelly running out. I'm sure the cold October breeze will do her good?
Troubled by Max's demanding behaviour, and her fiance in prison, things don't seem to be getting any brighter for Shona either. Burst pipes and Lilly being poorly, she tries to relax with Sarah and a bottle of prosecco at The Bistro. With Michelle away, Alya is now also working there with Ryan.
Ignoring any babysitting issues, Sarah and Shona seem happy to get drunk leaving Faye to look after the kids and an increasingly boisterous Max. Its little surprise then that when they get back to the house, all hell has broken loose, and young Harry is soon heading to A & E.
At Speed Daal, James and Bethany play 'happy couples' over lunch, whilst worker bean Geoff tells Yasmeen that he now wants to own the place!. With Alya out of the way, it does seem appropriate and a great reintroduction to the 'gaslighting' storyline? Confronting her granddaughter, Yasmeen tells Alya about her (definitely Geoff's) idea of the 'buy-in' to the street food venture. Does Zeedan still own it? I always get confused with these shares/takeover/ corrie business shenanigans!
Buckling under the weight of Sinead's diagnosis, Chesney takes his troubles out on Bernie and Gemma, whilst Beth is, understandably, feeling it too.
Seeing that Chesney needs cheering up, Gemma announces that she's won VIP tickets to a match at Weatherfield County. The couple heads off to the ground to collect the tickets with a prize-giving from Tommy O. Affronted by the photographer's suggestion that Gemma is too big for the turnstiles, she tries to use them anyway, and promptly gets stuck!
Talking of which, Bethany accidentally injures prize striker James, whilst having a mess about on the street (not that like, he's gay remember). Now, I don't watch football, but is our favourite fictional football team more forefront as a 'character' in the drama these days? What with recent international football 'issues' making the headlines, I think Corrie may have timed this impeccably...
Back at Victoria Gardens, Sinead seems to lighten the atmosphere in suggesting a game of 'Naked Twister!' for the gang, but of course, its in jest. As the jovialness subsides, it does feel like a dark winter is about to envelop Weatherfield. Sinead's mobility has now declined to her using a wheelchair, and her illness is causing visible nausea. Even though shes incredibly ill, there is some poignancy in Sinead noticing the changing colours of Autumn and appreciating the fragility of this bizarre life we lead.
I know, I know, it's not real but I'm in one of those moods - Sobering stuff!
Speaking of sober, it looks like Shona has overdone the prosecco and drunkenly rages at Max, physically shaking him, as she accuses him of seriously injuring Harry.
Has she gone too far this time?.
