Today, March 5th is the 61st birthday of Coronation Street character Tricia Hopkins. Tricia was one of Coronation Street's first 'dolly bids' and she's the reason that Gail was brought into the show too.
The actress who played Tricia Hopkins is a lovely lady by the name of Kathy Jones. We met Kathy at Corriefest a few years ago and she really is wonderful, a very warm lady.

Aside from not remembering her,there are too many old characters on the Street[Toyah, Gina,The Barlow men]now in somewhat questionable storylines so I don't think it's necessary for Tricia to return if only to give Gail a storyline.
There are too many characters on the Street many of whom who are rarely seen due to the writers focusing on the same characters over and over again.
The nostalgia for the old characters is not for any specific characters but for the fact that they were fully formed and relatable. Bringing specific characters back does not change anything. When they arrive they are reshaped to suit the moment and we are again left with the longing for that sense of seeing ourselves and our community reflected back to us in this show.
Too long ago now.
