Peter Barlow and Corrie's 50 Shades of Grey
It can't be just this Coronation Street fan who's noticed that since Peter Barlow got together with Toyah Battersby, he's become a shadow of his former sexy self. In fact, he's sunk so low in the dishy stakes these days that he's become rather beige. I mean, all kinds of beige plus off-white and grey. Very dull grey.
When Peter was with Carla he was firing on all his sexy cylinders. He wore black. He was moody. He wore beat-up biker jackets...
He wore spiv suits...
But since getting together with Toyah he's changed. He's even been spotted wearing a white sweatshirt this week, for heaven's sake. No one looks sexy in a white sweatshirt, not even Peter Barlow. And he's in grey a lot of the time too, grey shirts, grey tops.
It's not a good look. Being together with Toyah is clearly not suiting Peter at all.
And then, this week, just when we thought Peter could slip no further down the ladder of sexy and cool, he goes to visit Carla. The two of them sat on the sofa in Roy's flat for a chat about Simon. They had more chemistry between them in that little scene than Toyah and Peter have ever had.
And here's the proof, a screengrab from Wednesday night's episode this week. Yes, Peter's still cloaked in a caramel coat but look what he's wearing underneath. Black is back.
Therefore, my half-baked theory clearly shows that Carla and Peter will be back together before long. No need to thank me.

I love the chemistry between Peter and Carla but I really hope the writers keep them lusting from afar. Couples do not need to become an item for the electricity to zap every time they are on screen together. Len and Elsie managed to keep us guessing and, as far as I can remember, nothing happened between them while he was married to Rita. The revelation after his death about another woman was an entirely different matter. Maybe Toyah will run off with Eva and the baby so Peter will be a free agent again. I'm very underwhelmed by Carla's return, and Peter and Leanne were the best match IMO. Actually, Peter changed after he came back from America with Carla. Both actors had quite a long break and when Chris G returned, his face was different! Did nobody else notice that? I think he'd had new teeth fitted while resting and he looked too perfect for Peter.
That beige jacket looks like he borrowed it from Roy. Thankfully this baby swap nonsense is almost over. When he realizes what she’s done, hopefully he’ll leave Toyah and get back with his mojo.
I agree with Humpty Dumpty, I think Peter and Leanne are the best match as well. I was never big on Peter and Carla and if anything I think recent scenes show that their spark has faded. Peter and Leanne still seem to get on well I think there's still unfinished business there. It's been nice seeing the two of them share so many scenes together again and reminded me of how good together they were those years ago.
YES BRING BACK THE LEATHER JACKET.
Excellent post. I couldn't help noticing the chemistry between Peter and Carla from the moment they saw each other again at Christmas. They have a dark and sexy chemistry and I hope the writers have something big planned for them. Peter has started to get some of his spark back since Carla's return.
I loved watching him practically exploding with jealousy when he realised what was going on between Carla and Daniel. And then it turned to concern when he discovered that she had kidney disease.
Toyah and Leanne are the worst thing that ever happened to Peter Barlow. He's been stuck with them for years now and it's dragged him down to the point where he is a shadow of his former self.
It's obvious to me that he's still in love with Carla but I don't think he has the same appeal for her anymore, sadly. She's going for everyone bar him! lol
At least he's not wearing a bomber jacket like Kev! :)
Liz and Steve back to run the rivers please......
Run the rivers? That reminded me of the great 1980's Aussie mini-series 'All the rivers run' about steamboat rivalry - all good fun!
