Qasim Akhtar is leaving Coronation Street
Qasim Akhtar is leaving Coronation Street.
ITV have confirmed that the actor, who plays Zeedan Nazir, will be leaving the show.
A spokesperson for the soap confirmed Qasim's exit, saying in a statement: "Qasim is a talented actor who has been involved in some great storylines. We wish him every success for the future."
I feel it's a shame he's leaving. I'd much rather he stayed and some of th other dead wood from the show went instead.
Find out who else is leaving, joining or returning to the show.

Too many cast members now, not enough decent storylines for them all. Another one leaving a sinking ship.
And so the new Speed Dahl set is destined to get about as much screen time as the Jameel community Centre.
I thought Qasim really grew into his character and will be missed. So true, Rapunzel. A whole set seemingly designed and built around Zee's idea will have to be worked around. I suppose it's time for some long-lost cousins with chef credentials to appear out of the blue.
I wonder if Rana will end up running it? Her and Kate maybe?
I can't say I'll miss him all that much, he's always down in the mouth about something.
His character was never really developed. Another one without any friends. His screen father leaving didn't help; there could have been generation clashes. As it was, the actor wasn't given anything to get his teeth into. Much like Luke, who only became a major character in his exit story, Zeedan may get a strong send-off.
Oh, I disagree with you Humpty, about Z not developing. Remember the tightly wound ball of rage he was when he first arrived? Even tho his marriage has been a disaster from the day he laid eyes on her, he has made friends with Robert, learned a trade and is a good foil for Yasmeen. If the past couple of years’ screen time hadn’t been so dominated by Callum, Nathan and Phelan, there would have been room to flesh him out further (are you listening, ITV?). I’m sure the actor, being young, attractive and talented, will have plenty of offers and I wish him well, but as a fan I hope they leave the door open, and that this isn’t the end for Yasmeen as well.
I do hope that Yasmeen will stay - maybe she can take over the restaurant!
I agree that Zeedan was fitting in on the street a lot better than when first brought in. Other than making the ill-advised pass at Leanne i enjoyed watching their friendship evolve. I think he and Rana would have made a good couple but once again the PTB opted for a sensationalized affair rather than a happily married couple.
Hadn’t thought of Leanne, but there’s another connection. He’s also probably the only person who could get through to Simon at this point as well; when he gets himself kicked out of school, he could buss at Speed Dahl and grow up in the process. Maybe he’ll have a chance before he leaves.
abbyk - I thought the same thing about Simon. It's too bad they let the friendship between him and Zeedan just fall off the radar. Missed opportunity.
oh that's too bad. Another good looking guy and I enjoyed his friendship with Leanne. They killed off his mates Andy and Luke. Now they have isolated him grom Kate and Rana. His only friends are his sister and Robert. effectively wrote him out.
I wish his dreary sister, Alya, was leaving instead. I will miss him.
I agree Tashacat. He's a lot more interesting than Alya who is so self centered and, frankly, boring. He was just starting to get a lot more complicated. However, none of the Nazirs have been used to their full potential.
