Dev Alahan has been the Corner Shop boss for a long time now, 17 years in fact, which got me thinking, maybe it's time for a change at the Corner Shop.
I do like Dev as a character, he's strange but likeable.
The Corner Shop however does feel a bit wasted on Dev, most of the scenes we see these days are between Dev, Mary and Erica. It doesn't really feel like a meeting place for characters like it used to, especially now that characters like Molly and Sophie no longer work there.
It would be interesting to see perhaps a new character coming into the street and buying the shop from Dev, who still has Prima Donner to share scenes with other characters.
Perhaps even Freshco could open a mini market there, and bring in a manager.
With Kate Oates first episode airing today, I wonder if we will begin to see some changes on the Street?

I remember when Dev owned more than one shop.At least now he has a hand in a food shop, and a fitness place. Smart thinking there.
I just don't think the set looks realistic, better than it was before the tram crash, but Alf Roberts' modernisation in the 80s was the most real looking shop fitting.
Btw, the shop interior before that looked like one I used to live opposite run by a very old lady until her death in the early 2000s.
Agree that the inside doesn't look real - and too big. If we are to have new owners then I'd like to see a new family. But I'd also axe a few longer running characters to make way. My fear is too many characters = lack of interest in them.
For a long time, a corner shop was an old-fashioned idea that seemed out of place. These days, they're back as supermarket Express stores. Dev could sell it to Freshco who would open it almost 24/7, a storyline there about planning permission. It would also need lots of part time staff so new characters could slot in. I don't know if it's big enough atm but Corrie walls are elastic.
