Coronation Street Episode Review, Wednesday 13th September, 8 pm

Welcome to another Wednesday Weatherfield round-up and to catch up on the latest Coronation Street drama.

Following Monday night's escape, Stu realises that Eliza has done a runner, and panics, using Alya as a conduit while Yasmeen is away. When he gets a call from the school, he realises his grandaughter is at her Dad's flat. Suspecting that Dom has arranged all this, Stu calls out a social worker (and the police) who decide the youngster is best off with her Dad for another night. Stu overreacts, telling Dom he won't be giving him a penny, before getting arrested for assaulting the policeman.

Later, he meets Dee-dee at the cop shop and tells her what has happened. Watching the drama progress, I wondered if this could be the start of a custody battle. Surely not, because we have already had Stu go through a lengthy court battle over his wrongful jailing, a case which Dee-dee and Alya won for him! Out of the cop shop, Stu drowns his sorrows in the pub and sings songs before being taken away by Alya and Dee-dee. He wakes up from a booze-fuelled nap and tells Alyla his plan to fight for Eliza with a (drumroll) custody battle! Great stuff - I can hardly wait.

Meanwhile, Aadi Alahan is also in the thick of it tonight as his affair with Courtney becomes exposed at the business dinner celebration. Before the dinner date, Dev’s been probing Aadi about his love life, thinking he's dating Amy Barlow. Aadi lies and tells his Dad that he does have a new girlfriend, but is too embarrassed to introduce her to the family. As the dinner progresses (it's great to see this storyline cast ensemble together) Amy makes light of Aadi’s new girlfriend (knowing his secret) whilst doing her best Tracy Barlow impression. As the young lad gets embarrassed and Courtney plays along, he decides to get some air. Courtney follows him and embraces Aadi in the doorway, just in time for Dev to catch them in the clinch! Dev is understandably furious but promises to keep quiet to save the deal. Back at the table, the atmosphere shifts as Darren and Courtney argue. Darren loudly accuses Courtney of cheating, and Dev struggles to hide his dismay. Courtney admits to an affair and tells her husband that her beau is ‘'hiding in plain sight’' As drinks flow, Darren gets ever more drunk, and what with Bernie’s jealousy of him greasing up his business partner's wife, it isn't long before Dev gets accused of cheating! Darren throws a punch but stops as Aadi admits the truth. I think we can assume the shop deal is off!

Elsewhere - Roy and Evelyn’s septuagenarian living arrangements offer light comedic relief to tonight's proceedings. The cafe boss is known for his eccentricities, and what with Evelyn’s trademark caustic humour, these two are an absolute delight!

Also tonight, Dee-dee rebuffs advances from Joel and dithers about her love life, consulting Alya, Adam, and Michael. Paul seeks health advice from Shelly, but her condition is rapidly declining. Cassie helps Tyrone with the girls, but Hope takes advantage.

Aadi’s Affair Begins! Will This Bring Down Dev’s Business Empire? Corrie Blog Interviews Adam Hussain

In the past year, the Alahans have grown to become one of the street’s favourite families. Starting with Asha’s body dysmorphia, and the soap-week car crash (not to mention a subtle re-casting) fans have seen Dev’s twins develop into more than just ‘corrie kids’ who are seen but don't say much. That re-casting has really brought Adam Hussain to the front of the family, and now it's time for his character to have a big storyline. An extramarital affair with one of Dev’s business associates' wives would not have been my first thought, but then I'm not a soap writer, and from what we can tell - could this affair risk the whole future of the Alahan clan? As part of my latest Coronation Street blog press day, I chatted with Adam Hussain to learn more about Aadi’s risky business venture!

Hi Adam! Courtney makes a play for Aadi as soon as she first meets him. How does he feel about that?

At first, he's a bit intimidated by the advances of Courtney and Aadi is in a headspace where he has a lot of weight on his shoulders. There's this important business deal that Dev has to make happen with Darren, and Aadi also wants to prove himself to Darren and progress his career. Courtney offers to help him progress his career, he finds her attractive, but wouldn't have thought about making a move!

What is it about Courtney that draws him in?

She's a warm and welcoming character and has a knowledge of business that draws him in. Just that constant flirtiness and fun energy that engages him and pulls him further in.

What do you think she sees him in? Obviously, there is quite an age gap.

I'm guessing she's attracted to him because he's young and innocent. It's quite fun for Courtney, and Aadi's quickly infatuated with her. She's got him wrapped around her finger.

Do you think he's aware of Courtney’s vulnerability and the attention she’s so obviously seeking?

I think at first Aadi is a bit aware of it but not too bothered by it, he needs her help to get into Darren’s ear and progress his business ideas and secure this investment for Dev. As things progress he starts to develop more feelings for her. He becomes defensive and possessive of her and doesn't want her to go on holiday with Darren. We do see a change in him.

This next week we see the affair take hold and Amy catches them in the act. How worried is he that this secret is going to come out?

Aadi is quite worried at first he’s desperate to get into Darren's good books and make this investment for Dev happen. Dev reveals to Aadi that he's in quite a bit of debt as a result of securing the funds for this investment so Aadi has quite a lot hanging on his shoulders. For all of that to be ruined, and by his own sexual gratification, would be ruinous for him and especially if Darren finds out. Amy reassures him that his secret is safe with her.

Does he still have feelings for Amy?

He does, but he's quite preoccupied with Courtney and making sure that she's happy with him and that the affair is kept secret. He does enjoy his time with Courtney and has developed feelings for her. I think it could still go somewhere with Amy but, he has complex feelings for both women. The whole ordeal has made him very flustered.

Aadi must be aware that Courtney is troubled! Is he aware of what could go wrong here?

I think he’s certainly aware of the consequences of the affair, he tries his best to resist the temptation of Courtney’s advances but he always falls short. His falling for her too is not good. If the fling is exposed, Dev could be financially ruined, and Aadi’s aspects for a successful career could be tarnished as well!

Coronation Street Episode Review; Wednesday 10th November 7.30 & 8.30

Since Aadi came back into Corrie, events at N0.7 have had a high impact, and it's been a tumultuous year for the Alahan clan. The high impact drama has pushed the family to the forefront of the show, and long may it continue. Ignoring the (quite ridiculous) premise that this is all based on (cars are a motif for this family), Aadi's disgust at Dev's fatherly failings lead to a dramatic showdown, and rightly so. Alongside the outstanding acting, I am interested to see how this will pan out in the long run. With three businesses in the family fortune, you would think Aadi would be happy about his new managerial role - I guess Chesney is still doing the dogsbody duties, unseen off-screen. Money has long been a part of the Dev story arc, he is a businessman after all, but you can't put a price on your kid’s heads! Aadi admitting damaging Dev’s car will surely put another big dent in this father/son relationship.

And what about Aadi's failed relationship with Summer? I can't imagine a brainbox like her having some girly crush on her teacher, so I think she’s using that to distance herself from Aadi and his problems. Kelly and Aadi though? I could see that, maybe as a bad boy/girl coupling, just hopefully leaning less on any Corrie crime capers like this past year. Head swaps can be a risky business in soapland, but with Aadi, I think it's definitely paid off.

Here’s an idea. If Nick and Leanne are so concerned about Sam’s silence, why doesn’t she contact her sister, Toyah, who happens to be a professional counsellor?! I miss the little lad dispatching facts like a mini Roy Cropper, so I do hope he talks soon! Clever Corrie for giving Sam a background just like his Father, it’s just a shame we had to lose Natasha in the process. Corrie collateral damage, let's call it that. That said, how beautiful was that scene between Steve and Leanne in Roy's Rolls!!? I watch a lot of Classic Corrie, and even in 1999, she was stealing the show. Take a bow Jane Danson, exceptionally done.

Talking of brilliant Corrie women, a few weeks ago I mentioned in this blog how Carla may react following Johnný’s demise. I was a bit presumptuous in assuming Corrie would do a sidestep and hide it under the carpet, ignoring the factory boss' mental health frailty in favour of Peter's recovery. The scenes in Underworld with Sarah suggest that Corrie will in fact delve further into Carla's tempestuous psyche. Is it just grief, or is something much deeper in the offing? Peter is looking good following his life-changing (and very serious) liver transplant, so at least there is that. I am glad to see Peter back, but I was more surprised to see another familiar face turn up tonight on the show, too. Did anyone else spot her? The posh parent at the party? I'm 99% certain we've seen her somewhere before?

Elsewhere in tonight’s Corrie; Adam warns Daniel about Daisy, Tyrone’s got a new love interest, and Kelly struggles to settle into civilian life!

I may have had a 'wobble' recently with my Coronation Street fandom. It's rare, but after 24 years, it can still happen. However, tonight's double was exceptional and I think I'm back to normal again. Superb stuff.

Corrie Blog Interviews The Alahan Twins! Will Aadi and Asha Survive a Car Crash on 'Horror Nation Street'?

As we head into Corrie Super Soap Week, aka ‘Horror Nation Street’, we know that a lead character will end up dead! With a horror car crash lined up, are one of the Alahan twins at risk? Having already had one teenage death this year, will Coronation Street make it two? As part of our latest Corrie Blog press day interviews, I joined a Corrie Zoom session to chat with Adam Hussain (AH) who plays Aadi, and Tanisha Gorey (TG), who plays Asha, to learn more about this weeks car crash;

What is the current dynamic between Asha and Aadi in the lead up to the car accident?

AH The dynamic is currently very strained! There is this sibling rivalry between the twins. I feel like Aadi has a lot of resentment for his Father. There have been moments where Dev undermined Aadi, like when he expected Asha to get better grades than him, and he proved him wrong. Certain moments have built up a layer of resentment!

Does Asha feel like she is a favourite twin?

TG Well, not a case of them just being brother and sister. Twins have a special bond. The sibling rivalry is there, and that is perfectly normal. Aadi has supported Asha in the past, fighting for her and wanting to see her happy again. Personally (and because of what Asha has been through), she does feel favoured by Dev. She is a bit of a brat and fails to see it from Aadi's position! His feelings do not come into play!

How important is a family unit to the Alahan Twins?

TG They are a family unit but with intricate problems as well. They are solid, Dev is a single Dad with businesses to run, and the twins never make it easy for him! Mary does try to help solve problems and bring them together. When Dev sees the bigger picture, he does see them as a solidified family unit.

How does Aadi feel about it all?

AH They are twins, whatever happens. Most of the time Aadi cares about his sister. He is annoyed about all of the attention she receives. Asha is a Daddy’s girl and Aadi's ignored. It gets under his skin!

Does Aadi feel made to stand on his own two feet by Dev?

AH Yes, Dev has been using him a lot to run the shop, the shop management, and he feels like he is owed something for all of the hard work. Aadi sees nothing returned by Dev, and that annoys him!

This week we see Dev have to make a split decision following a car crash. He rescues Asha leaving Aadi trapped in the wreck. How does Aadi feel when he realises his Dad’s actions?

AH Aadi is sitting right next to Dev in the car and asks his Dad to help him, but at that moment, Dev says 'Rescue Yourself!' and I think it's a tipping point of resentment in a literal form. Although Asha is unconscious and helpless - it’s still a defining moment

With Asha unconscious, How do you feel Asha would think, knowing Dev rescued her over her Brother?

TG I feel like it would depend on when she found out? Maybe if she finds out in the Hospital, she would. Dev is only one person though, and she was unconscious. Aadi is awake - he’s just stuck. That’s where the balance may have to be. Asha literally can’t help herself!

What was it like filming the night shoots and the stunts?

TG It was cold and wet! There were so many people there on set, I do love to chat with everyone. I was dreading it, told my boyfriend how I was feeling, but then underestimated just how dramatic I was being! 4 am, cold and wet, but it was something I will remember!

There is a massive explosion after the crash. What was that like to film?

TG It was on a country road, so everyone had to sneak into the woods, so we couldn't be seen in the shot. It was so loud! I've never seen anything like that before! You don't know what to expect. The stunts were amazing to watch - the team did a brilliant job! It was loads of things I’d never seen before - even a drone camera. I felt like a celebrity! Loads of cool gadgets!

What was your favourite part, Adam?

AH - Watching the lorry crash into the back of the car. The stunt was a good scene and so intense! The back of the car comes off - it was a great moment. Joining Corrie has been so much bigger than I imagined it would ever be - very educational & fun!

Do you think Dev’s decision will change the family dynamic?

TG Yes. It’s just the three of them as this unit. I think this car crash could change the family dynamics!

Will Dev save one twin but lose another, or will this crash reunite the warring siblings? How can Dev carry on if he loses a child? I think Horror Nation St will have long-standing repercussions for certain Weatherfield residents, but we've no idea who will survive!! Scary stuff!
