Tabloid rumour: Corrie explosion to kill off a Street legend

Another tabloid rumour in The Sun today says that Coronation Street bosses are going to kill off a Street legend with an explosion on the cobbles.

As always with these tabloid spoilers, we blog them here just for fun.  There is no official source for this news. It's Mr Curry Sauce, as always, who reveals that the stunt is "going to be carnage".

Mr Curry Sauce continues: "This is going to be up there with some of the best scenes in Corrie history. Characters are going to be crawling through flames to escape and there's talk of killing at least one."

But let's say, if there is just one character being killed off, who would you want it to be?  I can think of at least three I no longer enjoy watching on screen.

Ho hum.

Been there, seen it, got all the t-shirts.

This is getting boring now. If its getting boring, blow up the rovers.

A legend so that could mean Ken, Rita, Emily, Norris. I'm guessing an elderly actor wants to retire and their character is going out with a bang.

Doubtless this will coincide with the BGT semi-finals, as usual.

And please let it be Dev.

Hi everyone - as stated in the original blog post - it's ONLY speculation and tabloid rumour.

Does anyone know whether Eileen Derbyshire ( Emily Bishop) is coming back? or is this some plot to kill the character?

Killing off legends is horrible sensationalism; they should be allowed to retire gracefully, like Hilda Ogden did: we know she's still cleaning Doctor Lowther's house somewhere in the Peak District, and she always will be.

Maybe a tram explodes on the viaduct, and the shrapnel finally takes out Rita. The malevolent tram gods will finally get her on the third try!

Rita.

OMG, do they think we are all idiots?? Why do they always fall back on a fire or explosion or a killing to spice things up. Why don't they give us some good story lines that do not involve the obvious? It would be nice to see some 'every-day-life' on the street every once in a while.

Oh great, looks like Oates isn't going to save the show. Too many stunts and explosions, smacks of desperation. Did no one learn the mistakes of Brookside?
Hope it's not true.

It's Steve.

Perhaps Les Dennis? http://www.itv.com/coronationstreet/news/les-dennis-to-leave-coronation-street Though I'd hardly call him a legend!

Not impossible that it could be Michael Rodwell played by Les Dennis as his departure is said to be "hugely dramatic". However, I agree that Corrie seems to rely too much on storylines featuring death and destruction these day. Where are the community-based stories we used to have, particularly when Bill Podmore was producer around 1976-1984, the first period when I watched Corrie regularly? There seems to be no real interaction between the various families and groups of people living and working in the street any more. Significantly, other than the very small community centre in Victoria Street, there seems to be nowhere at the moment where communal activities featuring street residents can take place, such as the Glad Tidings Mission Hall, the former community centre in Coronation Street and the former select room in the Rovers Return. All these places saw many wedding receptions, parties, pantomimes, concerts and fetes in years gone by.

Jeez, how many times can they blow up/burn down the flipping pub?
Good point above, about one of the older actors wanting to go out with a bang....or is on the chopping block.

I hate to venture, but Liz? Maybe the actress has had enough

Maria is pointless and arm folding, eye rolling Michelle isn't an awful lot better. Explode them please.

Tracy please!

There was a rumour that Tracy would be in life/death situation at Wethy General, perhaps as a result of this latest explosion (probably she herself caused)? I would hardly call her a legend but it may explain why Daniel Barlow is brought in now, to give Ken someone to interact with after Tracy's demise.

Emily was my first thought.

Much as I'd like to see them go, I'd hardly call Tracy, Maria, or Michelle "legends."

As much as
i dislike Tracy, she's fun to hate, get rid of Maria, Emily can stay in Peru, give the rest better story lines!!!!

Anonymous said...

Not that I'd want to see him go, but if we're talking legends... Ken!

Let it be Liz. I hope the actress leaves the profession all together, takes care of herself and finds something more uplifting to do with her days.

If it was Liz, it wouldn't make much of a difference....she's hardly ever in it now anyway.
