She's been one of the most debated Corrie characters for quite a while and, one way or another, things will come to a head during this week's episodes. Kirsty Soames may or may not become Kirsty Dobbs: wife, mother, bully.
Kirsty seems to be a 'love or hate' character. However, she has been so carefully drawn that it is, arguably, difficult to come down on one side or the other. Natalie Gumede's performance on Friday was both heartbreaking and terrifying. Here was a woman who thought, against all odds, that she had her happy ending in sight. At last a chance for her to be the person she thought she could be, even though evidence says something different. Although she now knows the truth, how will she act on it? Will vengeance be hers on her own wedding day? Does she somehow hope that the emotion of the big day will change Tyrone's mind?
Our very own Kathryn went to last week's press preview of the episodes. At our staff outing in Weatherfield last week, Kathryn sportingly DID NOT tell us the outcome. However, just to make sure that she didn't, we imprisoned her in Sean's locker at Underworld. We hid the key under the Action Man we found in Eileen's living room . . .
For me, the whole Kirsty saga has been a rollercoaster of loathing and sympathising. Natalie Gumede has been a joy (in an uncomfortable way) to watch. This week in Weatherfield should be one to remember.

I disagree. I had no sympathy for her. It was clear she was calculating revenge, which is another turn further loosening her screw. Before she vented her rage with violence, now she is deliberating. Classic psychopath.
She is a great actress, no doubt about it! However, I also have no sympathy for this character. She is just too crazy/damaged/potentially violent. All I do is cringe for everyone on the screen near her!
I am disappointed that the character has a finite lifespan on the show. As has been said, she is a superb actress. Hopefully she won't be killed off and then perhaps Kirsty can return in a decade or so having found help and become a changed person.
After all, in reality people are not divided into heroes and villains. Imagine her becoming a future Street icon having behaved the way she did in her past. It would make a character who was intriguing with more dimensions than normal.
No question - she is a phenomenal actress!! However, I've never had nor will I have any sympathy for her. She's twisted/conniving/dangerous.
Of course, I felt for Ty at the outset until those two idiots decided to get together before waiting 'til the wedding had ensured Ty's parental rights. Now I'm a bit pissed off at Ty and Fiz for their outright stupidity!
I won't feel all that bad if Ty ends up accused of being the abuser.
As for Kirsty, I'll be quite relieved when she finally leaves Ty and the Street - preferably without Ruby.
Leaving aside the farce of Tyrone and Fiz, this has been a brilliant storyline. Kirsty has flashes of lucidity when she realises she's very ill but can't do anything to avert her inevitable downfall. It's then that I feel sorry for her because NG has made her very human.
However, I do think we're seeing the different aspects of this abuser's personality because she's a woman. I wonder if we'd see the same complexities if the abuser was male - Owen, for example. Does the storyline encourage us to think that female abusers are mad, not bad? Or is that too sweeping a statement and one can only talk about this particular woman's reasons for being the way she is?
Humpty Dumpty you hit it on the head, would a man be shown in the same evilness with mental traits or just evil. Natalie deserves an award for this role, I'm sure it has been difficult to leave once the camera is off. As for leaving the street, she's not done yet and Ty may end up with the child but who's is it?
I think it is absurd to blame gender. Kirsty is a psycho not because she is an woman who does evil things but there is a pattern of responses to her outbursts which have been increasing in violence. That is what points to mental illness. Owen is not a nice guy but he makes choices within his full control. Hence he is evil but not mad.
Kirsty has been top notch in what could have been edge of your seat and informative story spoiled by the idiocy of Tyrone and Fuzz who are so bungling and annoying it erodes all your sympathy. The abused becomes the abuser and Kirsty with medication could perhaps become a normal and decent person.
Natalie Gumede's acting in Friday's episode was so bloody wonderful! I felt bad for her when her dream of a nice little family came crashing down after finding the evidence on the phone. How truly awful it must be for her to know that she is capable of horrible violence, wanting to but yet unable to stop it. Great storyline even with the cell phone down the sofa antics.
I HAVE NO SYMPATHY FOR KIRSTY EITHER SHE IS AN ABSOLUTLY AN ANIMAL HOW COULD SHE DO THIS TO FIZ AND TYRONE SHE DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE A MUM I JUST HOPE SHE NEVER GETS CUSTODY OF RUBY IN THE END WHEN SHE GOES DOWN TO PRISON KIRSTYS THE ONE WHO HAS BEEN ATTACKING ALL ALONG SHES PULLING THE WOOL OVER THE POLICES EYES ALL THE TIME FIZ AND TYRONE BELONG TO EACH OTHER
