There's a Coronation Street spoiler in today's Metro that suggests Eileen and Pat Phelan might be getting it together in the romance department.
After three, everybody, eee-uuu-ggg-hhh!
Michael becomes jealous of Pat's growing closeness to Eileen. And when Jason moans at Phelan that Eileen is complaining about her kitchen cupboard doors, Phelan rides to the rescue with some spare fittings and does the job, leaving Michael feeling pushed out.
And in the wake of Anna Windass later launching an attack on Phelan, Jason takes him back to the Grimshaws where Eileen prepares dinner for him.

Really not looking forward to this (more screen time for Eileen = more misery for me).
Still, I'd rather she got lumbered with horrible Phelan than they plonk him with Liz - she really doesn't deserve him but Eileen does, two rotten characters together.
Just lining them up as possible suspects after Phelan is killed. Just speculating. Actually..they'd probably make a good couple.
Quite possibly the most awful Corrie couple since the Ramsdens. Possibly . . .
The only benefit I see here is Michael leaving. Whether he goes back to Gail or not, it doesn't really matter.
Well I didn't see that one coming - I'm not too sure what to make of it - I guess it could work, I think that most of the time it's best not to make any judgements until you actually see the two characters together. Sometimes the chemistry works, sometimes it doesn't. Michael & Eileen together doesn't work for me and I thought that Michael was only leaving for a short while to do a play with Andy. So doesn't that mean he will be returning?
I still won't be a bit surprised if Phelan is rehabilitated to the extent he can take over the builder's yard from Jason when he leaves. Okay, so he'll never be any kind of saint, but then neither were Tony, Owen or Charlie.
And I too welcome anything that splits Michael from Eileen. It never felt authentic.
At least, he's the right physique for Eileen. Michael and Eileen looked completely wrong onscreen. She's already pretty obnoxious; I'm sure she'd happily do some of Phelan's dirty work.
Please tell me, noooo! But I suspected-as soon as I saw Eileen with her hair all fluffed up and a self-righteous simper on her face. They always give her a more flattering hair style and a temporary mellowing of personality when she's meeting a new fellow. Except with Michael, but he was so desperate that there was no need to gussy her up.
The thought of this makes me ill - mostly because I think it is time Eileen meets someone decent. She doesn't deserve the ill fortune she has had ever since losing (was it Dennis? the motorcycle guy).
I'd forgotten about poor Dennis, that was really sad. But Phelan - ugh! He makes my skin crawl, apologies to the actor who is probably a nice guy. Michael and Eileen just didn't ring true, it was only a means of resurrecting the Gail / Eileen feud. But maybe Eileen will leave anyway, because the actress is training to be a counsellor.
urgh
