Simon Gregson returns to work at Coronation Street next week

Simon Gregson has been away on extended leave from Coronation Street for personal reasons.  However, the good news is that he'll be returning to work next week.

Simon revealed the news in an interview with Manchester's Key 103 breakfast show today.

In Corrie, Steve McDonald is supposed to be away in Spain with his twin brother Andy McDonald.  I can't wait to have Steve back at Corrie. I wonder what he'll say about working with Tim at the Streetcars office?

Surely the news would have had to reach him before Sally actually bought in to the company, yes? In the real world you'd know if you had a new business partner...

They've mentioned that Steve was asking about how Tim was getting on, just the other night so he is aware. Mind you, he's probably not aware that Tim is kind of rubbish at it!

Steve is the one character who has been away for awhile that I've missed!

Really missed Steve. He was on top form this morning on Key 103. It was great to hear him, he was a natural. I'm loving all the Corrie stars who are being used as stand in presenters on the breakfast show. My fave so far has been Kym Marsh, and Brooke Vincent has been a revelation. Can wait till it's Alison King's turn too step in and co host

So glad Steve ' s coming back. He's grown into one of the iconic male comedy characters, but can do serious too, as with the depression storyline. And please don't split up him and Michelle, I think they're great together

I don't quite understand Sally buying into the taxi firm. How much does she own? and why? And how did she know she could buy into it? Just seems a bit extreme to me.

I read this a couple of months back and he didn't show, so I'm not holding my breath. I really didn't miss him anyway.

Anon at 14:27 - a couple of months ago we blogged that he would be returning in the spring. We didn't blog a definite return date. So there has been no "no show".

Poor Steve, it appears that the writers may be setting up trouble with his marriage with Michelle having an affair.
