Alexandra Mardell, who plays Emma in Coronation Street, was interviewed on ITV's Lorraine today. And Lorraine asked her about a fan theory circulating online - that Emma is the secret lovechild of Steve McDonald and Fiona Middleton.
Lorraine Kelly said this to Alexandra: "There's lots and lots of layers to this girl, that's what I love about Corrie, we'll find out more about her. There's a lot more to her. Some people have said, and I'm not sure about this, but some people have said that she's Steve and Fiona's love child."
"Oh yes, I have heard this," Alexandra said.
"It kind of makes a bit of sense, you don't look dissimilar!" said Lorraine
Lorraine added that they weren't allowed to say any more about the theory, quipping: "We've just got to put that in a wee box."
Alexandra coyly agreed: "Yes we shall."
Oh, I wonder what's really going on?
Let's have a look at their ages. According to Corriepedia, Steve was born in June 1974 making him 44 years old. Emma was born "circa 1999" which would make her around 20 years old. So yes, it's possible, age-wise. Fiona Middleton left Coronation Street in 1998 so it's also possible she could have had her child Emma off-screen and away from Weatherfield. But let's not forget that Fiona also had a fling with Steve's dad Jim... so Emma might be Jim's child too.
