Ben Price Interview: Nick nicks Audrey's cash
This is a new side to Nick what made him steal Audrey’s money?
I don’t think he sees it as stealing the money, I think he genuinely believes he is going to give it back. He has got himself into a bit of deep water with his ex wife, the new relationship with Leanne, the factory, he always needs a business so the money is what will sort all of this out. It was a business opportunity for him.
Did he think she wouldn’t notice it had gone, did he always plan to point the finger of blame at Lewis?
He always planned to put the blame on Lewis and somehow get it back to her. He also imagined that it wasn’t hers originally it is not really hers to lose, she hadn’t expected to get it so it wasn’t her savings, her hard earned cash. He actually thinks she never had it. He has a bit more of an edge to him than he did before, he has been messed around a lot. Carla messed him around, Leanne did, his ex wife is now trying to ruin him. He is trying to take control.
Doesn’t he imagine it will all go wrong?
No he doesn’t he is borrowing the money and he will give it back. He is a bit crazy buying things though, that has got to look suspicious but money is very important to Nick, image and money and he will do a lot to keep that.
How are things with Leanne?
They are fine but maybe Leanne half looks at Nick and convinces herself that they are in love because she has been through the mill so much with the baby and Steve and all of that. Maybe she just thinks that Nick is just a bit less rubbish than Peter and Steve! They were each other’s first love so that has a lot to do with it. Nick thinks that the image is partly what Leanne wants, the security and the money so it is important for him to keep that going.
How does he feel about being back in Weatherfield?
On the street he likes to think he towers above people a bit, he has a superiority complex, he would never work in the garage for example. He looks down a little bit on some of the residents, you need a character like that. That is why for me I am always so insistent he is in a suit so it seperates Nick from other characters and gives him that air of superiority. He thinks he might have grown up on the same street as the other people but he is the one that got away and made good and now he has to maintain that even if it is not actually the truth.
Does he feel at all guilty?
Yes I do believe he does, when Claudia is in the frame and other people are being looked at. He thought everyone would think it was Lewis, he’d pay Elsa off, get the factory and then give the cash back to Audrey somehow and save the day.
Is he surprised that David has worked out it was him who took the money?
Yes David is very suspicious, he does look for that sort of thing and he knows Nick better than anyone else, he knows what he is capable of, whereas Audrey and Gail would never believe Nick could do something like that David knows different. He doesn’t trust him. He girls in the platt family are pretty cool and fundamentally good people but the brothers are not.
Why do you think that is?
Nick gets it from not having his father around and trying too hard not to be like his father, DAvid rom always being the one who has been looked down upon - the fighter, so once David knows all bets are off.
Why does he buy the gifts for Audrey and Leanne?
For Audrey it is the guilt, but he covers it up as trying to make her feel better after what has happened. For Leanne it is just part of the image that he believes she has fallen for.
How does he feel when Natalie turns up and tries to blackmail him?
He is fairly relaxed about it, she is an irritant but the fact that she is only asking for £2000 and yet he got her to withdraw £80000 he knows she is not a real threat, but the fact that he got someone else involved is obviously a weak link in his plan.
Is David going to use this against him?
Without a shadow of a doubt yes, this is a secret that Nick needs David to keep and David is going to use that to his full advantage, this is going to be a ticking time bomb for the brothers and the family.
How do you think this will affect the Platts if and when the truth comes out?
This is something different to what they have dealt with before. Usually their problems come from someone on the outside causing them issues and threatening the family and they all pull together but this time the issue is within. It will divide loyalties and will really test the family.

Who is Natalie please?
Wasn't she the girl Nick went out with years ago & got pregnant? Hairdresser or something. Or maybe my memory is playing tricks with me.
Natalie is the girl with the butterfly tattoo who helped Nick steal Audrey's money. She works for Elsa at Nick's old restaurant. She is demanding more money.
