Faye Windass to get pregnant

There are stories all over the tabloids today saying that Coronation Street's Faye Windass is to fall pregnant.

Faye, you'll recmember, is only 12 years old.  She beats Sarah-Lou at becoming the youngest Coronation Street pregnancy as Sarah-Lou was 13 when she was up the duff.

We have no idea if this story is true as there's no official response to the tabloid rumours.  However, if it is true, then I think the actress who plays Faye will do this story justice. She's a cracking little actress.

I just gasped at this! Oh please no - Coronation Street has done this story before and it was done well at the time.
Secondly, I am losing the will to watch with only affairs and pregnancies. Stuart Blackburn will be the death of the show at this rate.

Her character has always been a troublemaker from the start, so I wouldn't be surprised if this ended up being true.

With the way story-lines have been rehashed on this show, I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner (Katy wasn't quite the same).

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Enough with the unwanted pregnancies. Faye had a rough start in life and on the Street, but has finally landed on her feet. Why not make her a star student and have to deal with not having a good enough ________ or jealous classmates or.... Anything but SaraLou Revisited.

Yes I saw this too, apparently something happened to her the day she got drunk at the icerink BUT we have already been here with Sarah Lou, I really dont want any more angst and depression stories with the Windarms.

Mind numbingly BORING. This has all been done with Sarah Platt. Can't SB think of nothing other than endless affairs and babies? Seriously think I might have to bail again until then end of his tenure.

How tiresomely repetitive...

Cue more crying from anna. Hasn't the poor woman been through enough already.

She will do it justice but I hope they won't do it. Deja Vu. Something this sensational being a repeat of something they've already done with Faye the same age, too. (Even though Sarah was 13 when they found out, she was far enough along that she had to still be 12 at the time of conception)

This is just wrong--instead of this, why not write a good story for a change of a strong young woman? We wonder why stereotypes exist...

O dear not again... She seems to be developing into a talented young actress that I would love to see her progress in a more positive/ HAPPY role.. More watchable than another rehashed negative/depressing story, too much of that on corrie already.

I agree that if this is true, the actress will do a great job. However, everything about this is sad that they can't come up with new story lines for the young actors.

I would have loved to see her turn her life around in Anna's care, despite everything that has gone around. Believe it or not, viewers still want to see good things and happy endings on their soaps.

That is the most ridiculous idea the writers have ever had! Can Faye not get straight A's in school and go on to Uni and be successful? Not every young girl ends up pregnant. Come on writers, think of a better storyline than this!

The actress may be brilliant but the storyline is, frankly, disgusting. I'm not disgusted at the topic; this definitely happens. What revolts me is that yet again, tptb are resorting to an unwanted pregnancy and this time it's a child. It might be OK if it was handled sensitively but that would be too easy. The producers aren't interested in the number of teenage pregnancies in the UK; they will want a sensationalist story. This means that Owen has a fight with father/grandfather, Anna wrings her hands in distress yet again, Gary blames himself for paying for the trip etc boringly etc. I recently commented that Faye should start having a normal life with a best friend. Sarah Lou had Candice to support her; Faye has no friends.

Having watched 'Gail and me' when Helen Worth laughingly said of the adultery storylines, 'What else is there?', I now really believe the Corrie cast and crew live in a soap bubble. They evidently believe that sex sells best so that's what gets churned out over and over again. They've run out of available adults, so now it's the children. Awful, just awful - and this is no comment on the actress, however wonderful she is.

First more bed-hopping with Carla and Luke, then Maria, and now this; the oftentime consequence of bed-hopping, but to a character we wouldn't suspect, just for the 'surprise' element.
Only it isn't as Faye has had troubled scenes before and unfortunately the stability she's been showing lately will be now be demolished.
Yes, why not let Faye excel in something outstanding? Be a credit to Anna and to herself instead of a constant source of worry.

What do you expect - there has been nothing original for a long time. This story was done a long time ago and cannot be improved upon imo.
Frankly, with the example set by that family it would not be a surprise: Gary & Izzy - not married but with a baby; Katy - not married but with a baby; Anna & Owen not married; both Anna & Gary sleeping with others. Tim & Sally - not married, Sophie & Maddie not married. These are the members of Faye's immediate family.
Is it no wonder that she would think that having sex is no big deal?
As to getting pregnant (by accident) - there are so many contraceptives out there, and public awareness programs, that it is hard to imagine that a 12 year old is not aware. What about sex education in the schools?

why destroy the character of Faye - why cant she rise above it all..go to uni..become a professional?? Maybe become a social worker to help kids like she was. Would this not be a better direction to go?

Zagg said...

Oh bummer. Not Faye. Why can't she be a happy kid for a change? She's really grown into her role and I enjoy her now. Oh...so not happy about this. Please writers...think outside the box for a change. We don't need this really.

Totally agree with all of above. When I read that headline I just thought oh no more grief and sensationalism

Unknown said...

Totally agree with all that is said above, utter tosh

Heaven forbid that they would take this character in a completely different direction, see her turn her troubled life around and make something inspiring of herself! That in itself would create enough "angst" as she'd be doing better in life than Anna, Owen or Gary! Why is it that she has to both get drunk and have sex - why portray her this way instead of learning from her life/mistakes?

Anonymous said...

It'll be a wonder if she gets pregnant - unless she's got a guy stashed upstairs! We NEVER see a storyline with her personal "outside the house" life portrayed.

Oh Please - wasn't this done to death already with Sarah Lou? Are there any writers left with any imagination at all? Surely there is enough going on in the world for inspiration that they don't have to keep dredging up the same old story lines. I've watched Corrie since Day One but it is becoming more and more boring by the episode to the point that giving up a 50+ year habit may not be so difficult at all.

So tired of the windy bums. Though Faye's adoption is now final and legal, will Children's Services now blame Anna and try to apprehend her - cue more moaning and wringing of hands with the occasional rearranging of that loose strand of hair by Anna. Disappointed at this storyline.

I must agree with everyone else here. Affairs and pregnancies, yawn-o.

I bet you they think it will be fresh because this time - unlike Sarah Louise - Faye will have an abortion. They skirt around it from time to time and once in a while they do it.....
I am disgusted with Stuart Blackburn.

Shan said...

I would like to say that maybe they'll decide for Faye to put the baby up for adoption but the way things seem to be, they'd probably write it with the Phelan's adopting.

Anonymous said...

Nooooooooooooooooo!!!! Let her excel at school/sport/ dance / art anything besides a tedious retread of Sarah Lou

Anonymous said...

And whats the betting the baby's father will end up being portrayed as an incompetant fool as though its all his fault?

Anonymous said...

Ick!

" Not every young girl ends up pregnant"

You're right, and not every young girl who gets pregnant KEEPS it.

29 comments so far and only one (Newfy Pearl) has mentioned the elephant in the room - abortion. Perhaps the writers and producers will summon up the guts to do that storyline for a change.

I've read some articles recently about how mainstream TV and movies rarely portray abortion, that occurrences of abortion on those platforms is at odds with real life and that when it does happen the mother character usually dies - again nothing like real life.

UK television is much the same imo.

In thinking about it and reading all your comments, I hate the pregnancy story more and more. Faye the star student who succeeds would give us years of interesting stuff, and as they've hijacked every other young'un who grew up here, it would be a fresh story. Nobody in her family knows what a book looks like, they surely won't be able to help her with calculus or chemistry homework. Sally would finally get a girl destined to succeed to take under her wing, and it cause all types of friction with Anna. And Tim. 15 years from now, Faye in a suit. Faye with a car. Faye buying a flat at Vic Court. Anna in an apron. Anna at the Rovers. Okay, that might be a rehash of Ken Barlow and his parents, but will anyone who saw the first few years still be watching?

Nah, why do that when we can have barefoot and pregnant next week.

Why would the writers try to come up with anything new? It's always been just a re-hash of old storylines featuring different characters. You want change? Stop watching. It isn't as hard as you think.

This says more about SB's time in the producer's chair than anything else.

More sensationalist nonsense, Retreading the same ground over and over again.

Is this really the same programme that used to feature Hilda mopping up every morsel of gossip in the corner shop?

Hard to believe it's the same show.
